check the starter and the battery first! Even check the cable on both for corrosion

outlawfrog is probably right, I wouldn't think it would be anything major. Did you try to jump start it?

if you can't move the car.....take the starter of, and take it to o'reilly.....or whatever local parts house you have that has the capabilities to test starters.

Don't forget to check your cables also.....the ones to the batt AND to the starter.....including BOTH ends of the batt ground. As well as the terminals that slide on the batt. Could be a dead starter.....but could also be a f'ed up ground. I had a P.O.S silverado that pulled that clicky **** on me, after I replaced the batt and the starter (both of which NEEDED to be replaced anyway), it still would'nt do **** but click. Turned-out to be a cracked terminal on my ground cable....what a DUHHHH moment.

should be pretty simple......but you gotta get under the car! lol.....just disconnect the batt.......take the wires off of the starter ( but remember what came off of what post....should be two big wires, one of which is the hot wire, the other is the ground....then a smaller wire), then take the mounting bolts off. I've never taken mine off of the GT, but typically there are two bolts holding it on. Be sure to hold it level while you are getting the bolts loose, so you don't f up the flywheel....and don't drop the damned thing on your head! lol While you're at the parts store, pick-up a hayne's or chilton book for your car.......there's a lot of good "how to" info in there.

Here are the one's listed for your 01 gt.....I'd suggest the Ultima select....it's new ( not a reman), and has a lifetime warranty

Oh....and I'm not sure if the price would be different in your area....or even if you have an O'reilly....but most stores will be within $20-30 of each other.
{start sales pitch}
Don't forget, O'reilly has a low price guarantee....meaning if you find a "like" product for a lower price, we'll match it. "like" product means warranty and brand.....we can't match prices on thier 1yr warranty with our lifetime warranty.....or thier "in-house"brand with our national brand ( example- Battery...we can't match autozone's duralast with one of our optima's or motorcrafts)
{end sales pitch}
hahahahahahahahaha

Hey, what the hell?!
Apparently my handle is now a figure of speech! "...pull an OsirisGuy..." :cop:
But yeah I would also first check the electrical components: Battery, starter and go ahead and check all engine bay fuses as well as the interior fuses. If you just picked up the car, or it has been sitting, or is older (...etc...) I'd check the alternator too just in case; it may be just a coincidence that the electrical system isn't starting as you drove through the puddle.

The few times that I've had clicking noises when attempting to start a vehicle, it's turned out to be the starter if the battery was good. You've got a manual transmission; try push starting it. If she fires up, you've either got a flat-spotted starter or a bad starter solenoid. Assuming, of course, you didn't hydrolock the engine by sucking up water through the intake. Do you have a cold air intake that extends into the fenderwell?
