BBK shorty help

Ok, I know there have been TONS of posts asking about headers, and I've read a few of them, but still have not found what I'm looking for.
I'm not asking "shorties vs long-tubes". I want to know the pros and cons of the BBK polished ceramic shorties.
BBK Ceramic Shorty Headers (96-04 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

We've got a set at work ( brand new in the box), that someone ordered, and hide. We found em a few weeks ago, and my manager just wants em gone. I can get em for $125. Need them or not, that's one helluva deal! Today, I went ahead and got my dual gauge a-pillar pod......$100 pod for $25! Samething, some jackass ordered it, and hide it....and got fired before he could do **** with it, so....I WIN!!!!!! lol Now, if only he'd ordered PI heads and mani! hahahahahaha

The good deal aside, I just want to know what/if they'll even make a difference....good and bad.

Re: BBK shorty help

I have the same headers on my car. They wont give you a deep sound like long tubes, but they still sound OK do you have cats? My car sounds a little raspy at certain rpm's I don't have cats and am running American Thunder 40 series Flowmasters. although thats one hell of a deal, even if you don't want them you could probably make a few bucks to put toward ones you want. FYI the shop that installed them told me they were harder to install than long tubes (more labor) and they blew my AC line due to the heat! The headers curl up than down unlike long tubes that go straight down. If you install them try to move your AC line and wrap it up with some quality heat resistant wrap.

Re: BBK shorty help

Yea, I've still got cats.....running Delta 40's.....I LOVE the way it sounds, so my purpose isn't in sound, that'd just be an added benefit if it sounds better. If they will not benefit me in anyway, then like you said, I may just get em anyway, and see if I can make a lil cash on em( that could help finance an MGW shifter, and a few other things I want)....if not, they can just sit in the shed until my stocks die, or I get a spare 4.6 to start building..lol

Re: BBK shorty help

I'm not sure how much more hp you'd get. I did all the exhaust, CAI, pulleys and a tune and got 42 hp. I'd say they give you 8-10 hp not a lot but every little bit helps.

Re: BBK shorty help

If you want to unload those headers, let me know

I've been looking for a good price on shorties (as they do help some, esp with boosted applications.. And they're CARB legal..)

I'll keep that in mind. It'll probably be after the 1st of the year before I get em.

Well even so, I might pull you in a little profit

It's a PITA job to install em but I liked the gain, personally...

Will they work with non PI heads? (IE: your car)

Re: BBK shorty help

Hey Jim, I'm no header expert, but are those BBK's tuned equal-length pieces or just shorty headers? I think you have factory tubular manifolds, rather than cast iron manifolds, so you may not gain much by installing the BBK's unless they are the tuned pieces. Most folks think putting shorties on the S197 motors are a waste of time and money, but I don't know about your particular application.

If I install them, will I see or hear a noticable difference?

Re: BBK shorty help

You might hear it, you won't really see it as they're buried in the engine bay on the 4.6s

I noticed a slightly different sound at idle, and gained a bit of trap speed, it didn't feel any faster on the street - then again I just had the FRPP shorties

Re: BBK shorty help

Adding them to your system with Delta Flows will probably give you between 5-10 more ponies, and will definitely change the sound of your ride. Not necessarily louder, but definitely more pure, if you know what I mean.

Re: BBK shorty help

Anything would be better than stock... I think you'll like em just make sure to wrap your AC line or the heat will pop it.

What should I wrap the ac line with? Header wrap? Should I wrap the headers also?

Re: BBK shorty help

You don't need to wrap the headers, well anyway I didn't for looks... Header tape should work on the AC line. The shop that installed my headers used some sort of tinfoil looking stuff, not really sure what its called.
