Rough idle

Well my parents went to dallas for the weekend to see the cowboys game and there was a spot open in the garage for my stang. Since it rained really hard here I parked the stang and drove the truck the past couple of days. I got in it today to go to town and when i started the car it felt like an earthquake the car was shaking like crazy it drove ok once i got into town but i've had a bad idle for the past 3 or 4 months. I figured it was the idle control valve or whatever that thing is on the plenum. But would an exhuast leak between the manifold and downpipe cause a bad idle? And it seems like i have alot of white smoke coming out of the tailpipes. I put on an off road x pipe in the summer and the left downpipe i had to have modified to make it fit on the doughnut of the exhaust manifold. Is it possible all of this is the IAC or could something be messed up from and extensive exhaust leak.

Re: Rough idle

with it raining, and I'm sure colder weather there - the smoke you see is probably just condensation but there is potential it could be a head gasket - though, esp with a dead miss, you'll see a fair amount of 'smoke' from the tailpipe

Before you parked the stang did you drive it in heavy rain?

There's a possibility that water got down the coil valleys or you've got a bad coil..

A couple things you could try : next time you've got the dead miss, pop the hood - start unplugging either the injectors or the coils, see which one you disconnect does not affect the idle quality.. and chances are that's the dead cylinder. From there, swap the coil with a different cylinder, and repeat the process - see if the miss follows the coil..(make sure the coil bore is clean/dry when you're checking this, and don't be afraid to use dielectric grease
