wheels and tires

i have a 2003 mustang gt auto with mods.
i'm looking to buy chrome deepdish bullitt wheels. 18x9 for the front and 18x10 for the rear.
what i'm wondering is 1.) what size tires to get, 2.) which are the best to get, and 3.) would the front wheels rub when i turn?

so far i've narrowed it down to 265/35/18 or 275/35/18 for the front and 285/35/18 or 295/35/18...either Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2, or Nitto NT555 tires.
i dont know which to chose.

any suggestions would be great, thanks!

Re: wheels and tires

18.5's for the front and if its a D.D. no KDW's unless u don't mind spending the money again because they wear fast on a daily driver.KDW's are a awesome tire though, real sticky!

Re: wheels and tires

for the front 18x9's go with a 275/30/18 tire the little bit of extra rim protect will be very useful if you ever rub up on a curb.

For the 18x10s go with a 295/30/18

go no smaller that the above statement (you technically could go wtih a 265 up front but i wouldnt unless you got a killer deal, the rears NO SMALLER!)

I dont think you can buy GS-D3 tires anymore, I have BFG KDW's (fire tread pattern) and they are a nice tire, nittos tend to run narrow in some of their brands so you may need to go wider on them to come out the same as BFG's fyi.

Rubbing on the front depends on a couple of things (keep in mind 03/04 cobras came with 9 inch wide rims stock) the offset of the rim and the amount of sidewall over the edge of the rim. The rim should have a back spacing around 5.9-6.1 inches~ thats normal for your car. They make rack limiters to keep you from hitting your front sway bar that you can use but basically... you wont have an issue~ now and again you may bump the front sway bar but it wont really hurt anything as you will only be going slow when you turn that much and you learn quick the limit so just dont turn past it

Re: wheels and tires

After i posted this and read ya'lls replies my friend and i started to talk about what i wanted to do and he brought up the idea of black chrome bullitts.

Here's what my car looks like:

and here's what i want to do with it:
1. Wheels/tires
-18x9 & 18x10 deepdhish bullitts. Need help deciding on black chrome or chrome.

-Either Nitto nt555 or BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2. Need help deciding these as well.
2. Grill delete kit w/ black pony
3. Black Honeycomb Trim Panel
4. Tint my tailights / install sequential kit
5. Mach 1 Chin Spoiler
6. Shaker System
7. SLP Exhaust Tips. Need help deciding on chrome or black chrome. ( i was gonna match this to whatever wheel finish i decide on)

Any suggestions would be great because i want to make my final decision soon so i can order it soon. Thanks.

Re: wheels and tires

I personally like chrome on white cars, but its all subjective. Google pics of black chrome rims and see what they look like on others cars and determine if you like them or not.

Instead of a honeycomb back panel consider flat black vinyl to see if you like it, if so you can paint~ but vinyl will work good and looks cleaner than honeycombs~ and is much easier to handle... and doesnt scratch up the paint under it.

If I had to choose for my own car between nittos and kdw's I would take the kdw's. Mine were 1000 for the set~ 275/30/18s front and 295/30/18s in the rear.

Re: wheels and tires

see i was thinking chrome too but idk, the black chrome looks real clean and since i have that little black stripe on the hood and im kinda doing black accents i think it might flow better.
and with that vinyl, i didnt even know they had that.
at tirerack.com i went looking and i added the prices w/ shipping and i can get 2 295/35ZR18 and 2 275/35ZR18 bfg kdw 2 with shipping for $914.55...good deal?
if so i was thinking of adding that warranty that they offer.

Re: wheels and tires

Try looking at cruizinconceptswholesale.com to see their package deals. Not trying to push their site; just offering up an alternative. I bought my Godspeeds and Nittos from them and got a great deal.

Re: wheels and tires

also compare on Home - Discount Tire Direct call them and see if they can get you a better deal, they will haggle with you on price and shipping is FREE through them (offset in price so in the end its the same as tirerack) i have ordered my last set from them and they are good to deal with.

Re: wheels and tires

Personally I think the black chrome will look better on that car, especially if you have tinted windows too

Re: wheels and tires

TIRERACK.COM FTW! I bought my tires there also and they were $400 cheaper than what N.T.B. was trying to charge me. Just my opinion but the black chrome........blah. black with a machined lip or chrome will look great on your car!

Re: wheels and tires

I usually get tires from discounttiredirect.com . Been running the BFG KDW2 (fire pattern) on the rear of the cobra for 2 years now and love them. Hook up 400 hp from a slow roll and will hook up 500 hp from a 2nd roll. I have about 12,000 miles on them and they have at least that much left in them (which I consider to be good mileage for a performance tire).

I finally had to swap out the front tires (BFG G-force Sports) after about 40,000 total miles. Put on the old pair that were on the white car and should be good for a while now. That's also what we have all around on the GT and they work well for regular driving.

i was thinking that but i think black with the chrome lip would be tooooo dark for my car. i've seen some nice picks of black chrome and its dark, but not too dark and when the light hits the wheel, it shines better than the other black wheels i think.

i cant go wrong with chrome though. i'm always going to say yes to that, haha.

im still debating on them but thanks for your suggestion, i appreciate it!

Re: wheels and tires

yea, you have to think about it and see if you can find examples to determine what works best
