TKO 500/600 OR T56

What kinda of tranny should I get. I think my T45 is gonna take a dump soon. Or can I rebuild it to make it handle 500rwtq. I really want a 6 speed, hopefully they drop in price someday..

Re: TKO 500/600 OR T56

if you can get a good gear set in one and have 5th and 6th as good overdrives you will have good gas milage, a .5 6th is great.

Re: TKO 500/600 OR T56

What do u mean spec? Arent 5 speeds better for the 1320? I just dont wanna pay an extra $1000 for a 6 speed. I do want better gas mileage though. I prolly will speed more on the freeway with the 6th speed too. I do think 6 speed is the way to go. Maybe i could just find one on ebay & rebuild it. Wadda you think...:chin:

I like the T56. Your gas mileage will be something you like as well.

Re: TKO 500/600 OR T56

if i was building a track car the TKO would probably be the best way to go

Re: TKO 500/600 OR T56

go with the tko500 or 600 because they have slightly different gear ratios than the original t45 tranny. they are pretty much the same otherwise except that they are really BEEFY. they are pretty much bullit proof trannys.

Re: TKO 500/600 OR T56

If your car will see high RPM shifts (or powershifts) north of 7000 RPM then forget any TKO tranny unless pro-shifted. The TKO's just do not like to be shifted that high in the RPM range. The T56 would be my choice after upgrading the input shaft to a 26 spline unit (or getting the Viper spec unit which already has the 26T input shaft). The T-56 should handle the same if not more power/torque than even the TKO600. It has been working fine for me at way more than 600 RWTQ so that should tell you something...

the viper spec t56 is the only one to consider, but they are very heavy... go tko for track use

Guys... The T-56 is only 24 lbs more than the TKO, 20 lbs more than a T45, and only 9 lbs more than a TR3650... That in my book is not a lot of weigh add for a much better tranny.

Hell, I would go for a C4 if you have over 550 RWHP and like to hit the track often... For gear banging the T56 is super hard to beat.
