Re: Exhaust?

Borla ftw, lol.

However, if price is an issue, magnaflow magnapacks are also amazing...deep and loud. The catback is $449 compared to $600 for the Borla kit...but, if you can do Borlas, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

Re: Exhaust?

Oh yea, a bassani x-pipe will sound good. the x-pipe will give off more of a raspy tone during wot, where the h-pipe will keep the tone deeper...both sound good on 2v v8's and 4v v8's to me, but some prefer one over the other.

Either way, with an off road pipe, you will be loud! Not sure how strict emissions are by you, but if you can get away with a o/r pipe, go for it! It'll put a smile on your face.

Re: Exhaust?

I love my Borla, plus before you install it you can polish the exhaust pipe, view my album for pics~ but on a GT it probably wont matter as you cant see the pipe

No, the GT pipes go up and over the axel. In teh cobra you can see them because the IRS requires the pipes lay flat. You can't do that in your car without an IRS or else the axel will rip your exhaust off the car through normal suspension travel.

Re: Exhaust?

Independent Rear Suspension...it debuted in the 99 cobra (1st mustang to every have one), yet some cobra owners don't like them. Some do swap in live axles from Mach 1's.
The IRS makes each rear wheel mounted and sprung individually.

The suspension in your GT and my v6 have a live axle, or solid rear axle. I believe the only difference between the v8's (8.8" rear) and the v6's (7.5" rear) is that the v6's don't have axle dampers or a rear sway bar...our suspension is based off coil springs...not leaf springs like back in the 60's and such.

When Ford made the IRS, they made it to bolt directly into the mustang's stock suspension mounting points...so this means you can take an IRS from a 99,01, or 03/04 Cobra and swap it in on your GT.

Re: Exhaust?

apparently, listening to the cobra guys, swapping out the stock bushings and a brace will help with some of that wheel hop...

Re: Exhaust?

Replace the junk rubber, hop = no more. There are sub 10 second cars running IRS's. Myself, slostang, and many others all run 600+ rwhp cobras with the stock IRS. The IRS is plenty fine. I wouldn't trade it for a solid for anything.

I had wheel hop pretty bad on my 99 cobra but I just failed to do anything about. So I sold it,but yes there are ways to "Stop the hop" as stated above.

Re: Exhaust?

Well even if you were able to find an IRS you can expect to pay between $1500-$2000 for it, or find a cobra owner that will do an even swap (Your SRA for his IRS and vice versa).

irs isnt a complete direct bolt in. holes must be drilled for mounting holes.

pretty decent how-to i found on this,

Re: Exhaust?

No, it's not that far from stock. But it doesn't matter as it doesnt apply to this thread.

I wasn't talking about foxes, but I'd guess it isn't a perfect fit for a fox body either, but I think I'd be safe saying it'll bolt directly onto a 99-04 mustang.

Someone do correct me if I'm wrong for future references.

I worked on a 99 Cobra & it looked like it would bolt right into a gt with no mods if any very minor.

Re: Exhaust?

Borla's have a great sound and expensive. If you want a nice performance sound, not too throaty but at 60-85 you've got a nice clean loud hum, SLP's are a good way to go. I say this because i have a full SLP set up.
