fuel filter

I bought the car with 99,000 miles on it and it curently has 114,000 i'm gonna change the oil this weekend and while I'm doing that i'd figure i'd go ahead and chage the fuel filter since your supposed to do it every 12,000 miles or sumtin? Never changed one on a mustang but have on some chevy trucks i don't think it will be hard at all but does it really matter which one i buy I was just planning on picking one up from napa.

Re: fuel filter

its above the rear axle kinda on the passenger side if I remember right. You will need 9/16th line disconnect tools (or is it 5/16th hmm) to pop it off. Expect fuel in your face/mouth/etc. You should do it yearly with normal driving, makes a big difference vs a nasty one.

Just get a regular one~ the OEM ford is fine or what ever.

Re: fuel filter

Be glad you have a solid axle. 15 minute job counting the 10 minutes washing your mouth/eyes out.

Re: fuel filter

if you read the ford manual for changing a fuel filter in an IRS mustang it says you have to dislocate your shoulder at one point to finish removing the fuel filter.

Re: fuel filter

what really sucks is that I was having my IRS brace installed... was literally looking at the fuel filter nice and out in the open unlike its normal habitat hiding behind everything ever.... and I had the new fuel filter sitting on the table next to the car... and FORGOT IT!

Re: fuel filter

Depends on the octane...that 87 stuff tastes pretty bad. lol

And Spec, I need to drop my tank soon to finally install my PPRV delete kit, I believe i Am going to change my filter again at that point. I changed it last year when I had the whole IRS out of the car...talk about easy access. lol

Re: fuel filter

I should've changed mine when I dropped the IRS for the suspension work...but I didn't. It's getting about that time, getting close to 37,000 miles lol.

Re: fuel filter

If you are saying its easy to reach then you either have really tiny arms/hands or you are lying to yourself. Its not an impossible job but its not like taking a wheel off either. Its a hard area to reach and work in~ especially if you don't have a lift. I didn't want to make it out to be like dropping the transmission to get to it~ but it still no picnic.

Re: fuel filter

I have changed a bunch of filters, but a few of years ago I forgot to relieve the fuel pressure and it SHOT into my face and eyes, and I felt like Chris Farley running into the house screaming OMG..........MY EYES ARE ON FIRE.
Jumped into the shower after feeling my way down the hall. That sucked, but remembering the story, I wont ever make that mistake again.
