Cobra tail light swap wiring HELP!!

Hey guys! Im a newbie to the forums. I have an 01 Cobra and I swapped out my amber tails for the all red. I wanted to do the sequential kit plus tint them. Well the swap went pretty good. The lights work and the sequential kit works. I used the factory harness that came with the GT tails not my Cobra harness. Nothing plugged in so I had to cut the plugs off and hard wire everything in. Now my problem is when I turn on the blinkers, all the rear lights flash. It looks like my hazards are on when I use the blinkers. Then if you push the brake pedal they all stop. Release the pedal and continue flashing. Its weird. Other than that they work great. I was told I either need to somehow delete one of the lines or combime the lines that control the brake feed or blinker feed? I wouldnt know which one to do though. Apparently no one has done this before. Any help would be great, thanks!

Re: Cobra tail light swap wiring HELP!!

Everything has connectors on them so nothing is touching. They light up fine and the sequentials work fine its just when you try and use the blinkers they act up. I did try and change the flashes but that didnt help any

What diagram did you use to wire them?

And are you selling the amber tails? Might be interested...

Re: Cobra tail light swap wiring HELP!!

I had to cut the pig tails off my harness and hard wire the tails in cause GT's dont plug into a Cobra harness. Also installed a tail light sequential kit at that time.

I am trading the tails for a set of black saleens, thanks though

That's what I'm asking, what diagram did you use to hard wire the new lights into the old harness? Might be part of your issue.

Re: Cobra tail light swap wiring HELP!!

If you simply press the brakes without hazards or turn signals on does it work correctly?

Re: Cobra tail light swap wiring HELP!!

After reading a few reverse of what you're wanting to do threads I came across this:

Pull the driver side kick panel and find a gray harness with a black pigtail plugged into it. Cut the solid green wire (pin 12). This disables the brake signal interrupt.

(This harness may be near the steering column, under the dash, in some models.)

Have you attempted to find this harness? I would look for the pin not being used and wire that into the leftover wire you should have from the GT harness. Sounds like you're missing the brake interrupt wire and need to create one.

I would find this harness and see if you can wire something from there.

Re: Cobra tail light swap wiring HELP!!

Yeah if you press the brakes they sequential correctly. Just when you use the blinkers.
I have found that info on cutting the solid green wire. I did that but its for installing cobra tails in a GT not the other way around. Here is the pic of it

Right, but have you attempted running the solid green wire to anything disconnected on the gt harness once installed color matching wires?

After reading the brakes work correctly otherwise I would think the brake interrupt is exactly what you're missing. Once you find a way to get this working you should be good to go.

No I never tried running the green wire anywhere. Since the cobras have a separate turn signal feed line and I basically dont need a separate line anymore cause the GT's run on the same feed. I have been told that I need to someone combine them to one or eliminate the turn signal wire. Sound like anything???

The brakes work fine by themselves, the turn signals work fine by themselves. The issue you're having is the turn signals are overriding the brakes when both are used.

Sounds to me like you need a brake override wired in somewhere. This will let the lights turn off the brake light when the flasher is used.

*edit* after rereading the original post again you are having a different problem than I was envisioning in my head, i'm sorry, will get back to the drawing board in my head */edit*

No the turn signals do not work by themselves. It looks like the hazards are on when you use the blinkers. The brake lights work fine not the blinkers.
