16 and lookin to learn

Hey guys im 16 and i just upgraded from a v6 manuel to v8 manuel! Now i see what they mean when people say should of got a v8! First off is exhaust the car has no cats with flowmaster 44's i was lookin at SLP's and wondering if anyone has any experience with these! I want my car to be loud but I also want the low rumble which it is loud jsut wonderin if i could get more out of it. Second is basic bolt on tips you guys have would be great tips of specific brands or even set ups as to which rear end gear to go with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Re: 16 and lookin to learn

Always remember, there is such a thing as to much... a vehicle that is to loud is just annoying and gets old FAST. If you like the sound leave it be, you could swap out to a borla catback or weld in different mufflers but make sure its not super super loud since it has no cats.

For rear end go with 3.73s (but it will hurt highway gas mileage, help city gas mileage) and lower the car ASAP about 1.5 inches with what ever spring you want. Make sure you look at the spring rate (progressive springs ride better and can be stiffer without giving up as much normal driving comfort). I recommend H&R springs for handling (the race spring) or Eibach for a drop without stiffening up the handling. You will need caster/camber plates and an alignment afterwards. Expect 200-250 for springs, 200 for caster/camber plates (maximum motorsports brand), and 50 for alignment.

Underdrive pulleys, cold air intake, a tune, upper intake (only do throttle body with upper intake) are good mods.

SLP's with an offroad mid-pipe will sound like a Z71 with straights - crap. I have an o/r X with flowmasters and it's pretty dang loud...

Will make it louder & sound better but they are a pain to deal with. ( installation, leaks )

Re: 16 and lookin to learn

Honestly, I like your current setup. Even though everyone seems to have flowmasters on their GT's, they still sound decent (but expect them to rust out eventually).

If you want to shy away from the flowmaster sound, you could swap in borlas or magnaflows as said above. Keep in mind they will be considerably louder than the flowmasters. Longtubes will deepen the tone and add a few hp's, but as big show 98 said they can be a pain to install, plus you need to make sure your piping corresponds with the length of the headers. You may have to do some custom fabbing if that h-pipe doesn't line up with the longtubes.

Re: 16 and lookin to learn

My buddy has an 04 Silverado SS and has a set of XR-1's on his truck. You can't hear it idle but it's got a very nice deep tone as you get on it.
