'02 GT Hesitation??

Hey.......I have an '02 GT and it drives great except after it sits all night or for a long period of time........When I first start it up, it seems to want to hesitate some when I start to take off in first........It seems to want me to rev it up a bit to get going......It's not bad at all and it runs fine after it warms up.......I changed the fuel filter but it it still does it.......Any ideas?

Re: '02 GT Hesitation??

sure its the engine hesitating or the clutch chattering(unless you have a auto)?

i get "clutch chatter" as it was referred to me in cold mornings during the first few takeoffs while the clutch is cold.

Re: '02 GT Hesitation??

my 92 does that all the time but its far from stock..

one guess is your MAF (with built in intake air temp sensor) could be fouled up.. that could cause a hesitation.. also car runs in open loop (off long term fuel trims) until the 02 sensors start switching.. could cause a hesitation if your car is running overall on the rich or lean side.. try disconnecting the battery for a few and then reconnect it before you leave, see if it still hesitates.. if it does it was an electronic control causing your issue..

Re: '02 GT Hesitation??

My 90 also does this, but it's also pretty far from stock. How long does it take for this to go away?

I know on mine, I can just rev it a couple times after it running for 10 seconds or so and it's good to go. If it doesn't take long, you may not have anything to worry about. You really should let your car warm up a second in cold weather before just taking off anyway (although I'm not really sure why... I've just always heard it, could just be an old wives tale).

You may want to try cleaning your MAF by spraying it with some electronics cleaner. This is especially true if you are using a K&N type air filter that has to be oiled. The oil is bad about getting on the sensor.

Scary stuff.
