Re: suspension kits?

Not sure how much you want to spend, but we can get some really good pricing on Koni shocks/struts right now.

Re: suspension kits?

I don't have access to a set for that price, but I can get you a set of Koni STR.T for around $325 (I would need to verify that price on Monday as Koni has special pricing right now). I can also get non-adjustable Tokico and KYBs for the $325-$350 range.

Re: suspension kits?

Add in shipping and your probably around $295 for the set shipped. I'm sure I could meet or beat that price (my price sheets are all out of whack with the special pricing going on right now). I would just need to call and verify.

The STR.T have been getting a lot of good reviews lately. I have not personally used them as my experience with Koni has been with their yellows (which I like), but those that have used them like them. They are said to be about the same as the Koni Sports at the softest setting.

They work well with lowered springs that have a moderate drop and spring rating.

I'll PM you a price on the CC kit.

John

Re: suspension kits?

Just my .02

I actually prefer the Eibach pro-kit or Steeda sports over the H&R SS for a street car only because I have heard that the H&R-SS can sometimes be tricky to match up with the right shock/strut combo. However, the advantage of the H&R SS is that you get that lowered look. I know a lot of people that really like the H&R-SS, so it's a matter of personal preference. It is highly recommended to not use the stock shocks/struts (you can, but it will not handle well) with the H&Rs. You are going to want a shock that has more dampning ability with those springs.

The STR.T will be able to handle the HR-SS, but that is probably the minimum type of setup I would go with those springs. I think (currently) they are the best buy within that price range, but if you were to ask me what I would recommend, I would recommend something in the range of an adjust setup. Something like the Adj. Tokico or Koni Sports (single adj) would be a good fit and would allow you to adjust it to your liking.

I don't know much about the Eibach's, so I can't comment on thier performance. It does sound like they are tailored to the Eibach springs and rates. They might work just fine with the H&Rs, I just can't say for sure.

Maybe some others will chime in that are using the H&R setup and what shocks they used.

I sent you a quote on the H&R plus CC plates. I think you'll be pleased

Re: suspension kits?

the mach 1 tokico OEM equipped struts/shocks generally are 250 for shocks and struts but you will have to hunt for them to find a set those are valved for around 600ftlbs front/300 rear~ which is going to work with most setups im sure

Re: suspension kits?

Search ebay for mach1 shocks/struts. You can find used pairs pretty cheap.

Heres a strut auction:
03 04 MUSTANG MACH 1 TOKICO STRUTS 87 - 98 99 00 01 02 : eBay Motors (item 130368409905 end time Mar-20-10 20:00:56 PDT)

It amazes me speedconcepts wants 420 bucks for that complete set these days. I remember buying that set back for my cobra AND my v6 when I had them for like 179 bucks + shipping.

Re: suspension kits?

This is also a great setup... but it won't lower you much. You could always sell the springs and buy something else though.

Speed Concepts - M-5400-A - Ford Racing Bullitt Tokico Shocks, Struts, Springs and Sway Bars suspension Package/kit for 1994-2004 Mustang GT/V6/1994-1998 Cobra

As an FYI, lowering with the H&R SS's, you need to expect a pretty big drop. When I used them, I used only the top isolators in the rear, and nothing in the front. I didnt have much road noise (that I could hear over the motor anyways), and I thought they rode nice. They're definitely stiff, but my god did the car look good hahah

Pic for reference:

Re: suspension kits?

I'm not sure what those are valved at. I did a real quick google search and saw another mustang guy that was disappointed with them. He said he wished he went to D-spec's.

Sorry... I don't know much about those, can't really comment.

Re: suspension kits?

you should be able to handle the install of all that mostly, the only issue I forsee is that damn strut nut.. generally takes an impact wrench or a good friend to hold a screw driver while you turn the nut (a slot in the strut top to hold the shaft still while you turn the nut)

Re: suspension kits?

its really not THAT bad, read my how to~ it does help to have a friend though. For MM cc plates you need a drill to drill the 4th hole out~ and as said the only real issue is the strut nut.

Installation will probably be 250-300 so thats just 300 you can save if you go at it on your own (but if you really feel you will mess it up after reading the how to then thats fine, just something to think about)

Yah take your time and remember what you did for each step. Take pictures if it makes it easier to remember, that always helps. The install itself really isn't too difficult, basically turning bolts and dropping A-arms, but there are a few tricky parts as said above.

If you get to a point to where you're unsure and don't feel comfortable continuing, put everything back together and take it to a shop. Better safe than sorry, especially with your suspension.
