MGW shifter

I am halfway through installing the mgw shifter. Is it necessary to do the shift stop step. I thought I remember a thread on it but I do not recall what was said. Any help be great thanks, Jerry

Re: MGW shifter

back the bolts all the way off then shift into 4th. Tighten the bolt up till it barley touches the shifter handle. Back the bolt off just barely like to where you could only get a dime through it. Shift into third and do the same thing.

Re: MGW shifter

technically its not useful to do it on a T-5 or T-45 (or T-56 for that matter) or any variant... basically any newer Mustang (which your 99-04 falls into) as you have internal bump stops... and if you shift hard enough to need them... you are doing it wrong.

If you are a only weekends hard core drag racer sure... but if its a daily driver put them in but make SURE they are quite far away from the shift lever and the jam nuts are tight so it cant move. They can mess up the transmission if to close.

Also note, when you're adjusting the stops, HOLD the lever in place with a bit of force (not too much)

I don't know how I'm 'doing it wrong' I guess but I have wear marks from the shift stops.. I tend to shift pretty quickly
