Short shifter replacement

I'm looking for advice from people experienced with changing out the shifter in a 03" mustang convertible 5 speed. Personal preferences; Hurst, Roush, or something else by your choice, including past and present experiences. I've owned a Hurst unit before in my formative years. Liked it alot. Had a great experience with it. Now with this car, I feel I should get advice from drivers and owners of newer cars and use this advice to my best benefit. I won't be changing trannys, just the shifter and a throater exhaust improvement in the future. Enjoy life Be safe Mmm Mustang

Re: Short shifter replacement

MGW (click here for link) makes a very nice shifter. Steeda and Pro 5.0 are also quite popular.

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either of the three. The Pro 5.0 probably has the stiffest springs, followed by the Steeda and then the MGW.

Scary stuff.

Re: Short shifter replacement

ive personally drivin a car for a long time with a B&M, a Steeda, and a MGW. The MGW is by far better than any, far second is the steeda. Go MGW and dont worry about drive line noise and all that crap.

Re: Short shifter replacement

^^ I agree with spector.

I've only had the stock and the triax in my vert. I can only hear the shifter noise with the windows up and idling. At any other time the exhaust(not stock) drowns it out( noise is there though).

Also got my shifter from Matt @ stangmods for a real good price.

Re: Short shifter replacement

How noisy is the MGW? I wasnt aware that short throw shifters made any more noise than stock.

Re: Short shifter replacement

Short throws don't have all the extra bushings and useless rubber junk inside to absorb the sounds. It is this noise deadening stuff that makes the stock shifter so sloppy. So, the noise transfers through the metal into the cabin of the car. With the steeda, you will hear the transmission running. I had the Steeda in my 5 speed GT. I then put a steeda in my Cobra but have since sold it in preparation to replace it with an MGW.

Basically, I would say get the MGW. It is adjustable and from what I understand quieter than the rest. Also, get the shifter gaskets from one of our sponsors here...or from someone else I know. They will help deaden any remaining noise as well as make it so you don't have you use a messy liquid gasket type stuff.
