Re: Supercharger

If you want a nice street blower, go with some sort of roots-style blower. Probably either the aforementioned Whipple or Kenne Bell. If you are really serious about making the most powerful possible, go with a centrifugal like a Vortech, Procharger, or Paxton.

A roots blower will make boost throughout the powerband, even at low RPMs. So they are great for something you'll be driving every day and want just for the fun of having the extra power. If you want something to race though, a centrifugal will make more boost and power at high RPMs.

Re: Supercharger

GTs dont like much over 450rwhp I would stick it at 400rwhp/tq~ you could use the money and upgrade to a better platform to start with, but that is just a suggestion.

Re: Supercharger

Don't listen to them..

If you have a stock 4.6 bottom end and you're looking to supercharge whatEVER you get i'd keep it under 10PSI or you could detonate and eventually blow your engine, it's rare that a unbuilt 4.6GT block takes can make 420 - 450HP reliably.

As for specific brands, definately keep away from POWERDYNE.. eww.

Personally i'd go with Vortech.. v-2 series is nice

Procharger is nice as well. Remember keep it under 10PSI!!! And whatever you do don't go over 5500RPM with the s/c

Nice ride BTW

invictus is right i wouldnt plan on making alot of boost on stock internals everyone ive talked to says about 400hp is the safety mark.

Thanks. Well I was actually thinking about Vortech. Another thread I read the other day was talking badly about Prochargers. Motor wise I havent done anything yet. Its coming soon but I have no idea where to begin. I'll have to do my research.

Re: Supercharger

Before a supercharger i'd consider getting some nice headers, and maybe even some cams. Some nice VT stage 1 cams should suite you well especially if you're thinking about s/c in the future. VT makes some nice ones and i'd recommend comp cams. I like the BBK headers but if you want to do it big get some KOOK headers =) You'll notice a huge performance increase and might actually improve your gas mileage.

Vortech is the way to go. Procharger is not bad at all, it's much more simple and rugged. Highly reliable.

Kook headers run around $900 but they're NIICCEEEE. You could probably get some BBK for around 4-500 make sure you get ceramic coated though, handles the heat much better.. Cams would probably run 5-700, if you're lucky you could get both for under 1k and you'd notice a huggee difference. You're still going to haul *** either way =)

Re: Supercharger

I have the vortech sq (10psi) on my '06, other than 39# injectors and u/d pulleys, it has stock internals. I had it dynotuned by Chris Johnson from SCT. He likes the centrifugals because they build boost and are easier on internals. I'm makin' 410rwhp, which is plenty for me, I wouldn't want to go much higher without making the engine a little beefier. I think a s/c give you the best bang for the buck, just my .02.

Re: Supercharger

nitrous will always be the best bang for your buck(unless you have a stock turbo car like a dsm or evo, in which case a 5$ boost controller can give you the greatest bang for buck mod), but the cool thing about a full-time power adder, is that its always there when you want it. you dont have to arm and hit a safety switch, open the bottle, purge, then step on it, you just hit the throttle and go.

its all about your goals. like Invictus said, Vortech or Procharger and keep it under 10psi on stock internals will make for a good setup, and you can upgrade airflow later on to give even more.

Re: Supercharger

A supercharger is definately a huge boost, full time, no doubt.. I just recommend the other mods first to see how you like it before you go with the s/c. A supercharger is a pretty extreme mod and you'll start seeing your mp/g drop like crazy! If it's worth it to you go for it!

Re: Supercharger

Well Every one I know around here sprays NX. I dont really think its for me. For one thing I dont want to blow up my motor hahaha. Plus I want to be able to out run someone on motor than with a nx setup. I mean dont get me wrong I like Nitrous I bought my x a second stage.... in which he sprayed a 225 shot and blew up his motor dumb@$$... anyway I really want bragging rights and I want it done perfect so I guess I need to start with heads and cam. I guess when I get it built I can start thinking about a supercharger.

I like your thinking. To me, there's nothing better than an N/A motor that will run with most (if not all ) of the boosted guys. After all, even after you build the baddest N/A motor possible... you can always add a little boost...

Re: Supercharger

Excellent.. I 100% guarantee you, you're going to notice a HUGE difference on the cams and headers. Even with those 2 mods, you're still safe to run a s/c with 8-10psi of boost. With the stage 1 cams and headers you're going to have some amazing sound as well, and with the s/c you're going to see around 430 - 450HP so don't bring it over 5500 rpm!

You'll stand with the nx guys all day =)

Re: Supercharger

only bad thing about procharger is that since its self contained, it takes quite a bit more power to turn.

if i was going to S/C i'd do KB after forged internals and HCI, but thats just me. i want a turbo, just one but that will be a LOOOONG time in the future

Re: Supercharger

KB is good for low end torque.. its also a bit tougher on the internals.. all of the s/c take a resonable amount of power to turn theres no noticeable difference though. i love how the prochargers and the vortechs just pull through all the way though.. as the boost builds up it just takes off.. keeps pulling all the way.

controlling boost only matters at full throttle. i love it when all these guys come to the dsm boards asking if they can turn down the boost to get better mileage, and we all just tell them "stay out of boost". you will get the same mileage driving without going full throttle if youre set at 5psi or 20psi.

if you can have a light foot and keep the intake pressures down, the injectors/fuel system only has to work that much less. i used to drive the GST all day long and not go over -10hg and got great mileage. as soon as i went WOT@20psi for a few gears, **** there went 1/8 of a tank.

Re: Supercharger

Ideally you want something that is intercooled or aftercooled. KB makes a nice kit but it is pricey. The Vortech kit is available with or without an aftercooler.

Someone recommended a roots style to me the other day. Do you have any suggestions as where I could buy one?

Yeah, forget the craparo.

Here is the perfect plan...send your engine to VT Engines to get it built and stroked 20 over to roughly 302 ci. This will include all forged internals, cams, porting, etc. Then, get the KB 2.6L that is going to be replacing the 2.2 and 2.4L offerings (not on their web page yet for some reason...but they have just come available.)

The VT buildup will run about 7900...the KB setup with BAP will tack on 3600 more....then of course the tune work.

Anyhow, this is my plan for the cobra...should be fun.

And cajun...make up your mind. You scream whipple then say centri FTW....pick one and stick with it you silly boy.
