Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

Well you've pretty much done all the common bolt ons and all the exterior stuff I'd do...except maybe a mach 1 grille delete (3pc) and the smoked headlights as you said in your intro post.

You could look into some taller gears. Do you have an auto or manual? I ask because depending on your transmission you'll want different gear ratios. Generally it's 3.73s for manuals and 4.10s for autos.

If you're in love too much with the SCT chip you could get a handheld SCT tuner. They are a lot easier and efficient these days. But if you want to keep the chip that's fine, SCT is a good brand to have if you have a chip.

I noticed you were thinking about shorty headers. I'd recommend long tubes for your 2v. You'll see some hp gains and a definite change in sound. I've heard they can be a pita to install on the 2v's though. It's up to you...some will say don't get shorties but it's up to you. If you want the look then buy a cheap set of shorties. If you don't mind the higher cost of long tubes and possible install charges then go for the long tubes.

There are tons of brands of headers for the v8's, so you have plenty to choose from.

Suspension is always a good thing. Lowering springs, shocks/struts, cast and camber plates, subframe connectors, all will help with suspension performance and looks (definitely looks for the 99-04's, get rid of that stock 4x4 look)

Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

My car's an Auto. I was looking into the gears a little while ago, but what are the perks of having them besides a better launch?

Also, i do like the chip, just cause its cost effective, but i'm having a problem with mine. I took it out of the computer and was looking at it, and its not staying tightly connected, so while im driving, if i hit the slightest bump, it disconnects and my RPM's freak out and my car shuts down, so i have to call American Muscle tomorrow and send it back to them.

Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

Gears will really help with distributing power throughout your powerband. You will notice a huge improvement in acceleration compared to the stock 3.27s. You won't gain any actual hp or tq, but the better distributed torque will make it feel like you did.

I'm not sure what tunes you have for your 4 bank chip, but you can have tunes made to make your auto transmission more aggressive. The handheld tuners allow you to use a custom tune that alters the shift points and firmness. It looks like the 4 bank chips do that too, so if you haven't had those adjustments made yet, I'd highly recommend it after yours gets fixed. The aggressive tune along with taller gears will make you quick as ****.

Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

Oh yeah, we like to say gears are one of the best bang for the buck investments here.

Both v6's and GT's benefit from them greatly. Plus, you have a much better rearend ~ 8.8" rear compared to the 7.5" in the v6's, plus a factory tlok (posi unit).

Just remember to adjust your tune afterwards so your speedometer isn't off.

Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

Yeah def., its nice because with that chip, i get free life time tunes, so after every upgrade i just send it back and in 24-48 hrs i got it back, just wish it was a little easier to put in

Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

Yah that's why a lot of people have started going with the handheld tuners...just plug it in the OBDII port under the steering column and upload the new tunes. But I can understand having the chip and not wanting to switch...it is cheaper and plus you get the lifetime tunes with American Muscle. It's real nice now that BamaChips does tuning, they do real nice work.

Re: Need Help With Mod Suggestions

Hmm I would go with gears to start, then look into lowering it a little. Those do look great lowered.
