Steeda Clutch Cable Kit

Anyone have opinion and/or experience with the Steeda Clutch Cable Kit? The kit includes an adjustable cable, firewall adjuster, and double hook aluminum quadrant. Price $99.99 (Stock cable only from dealer $79.99)

I had a new clutch installed, but overall pedal feel is a still a little gritty. Judging by the looks of the cable (rubber boot is broken, cable looks dry inside lining) I'm hoping the Steeda kit is the solution.

Re: Steeda Clutch Cable Kit

I used a steeda firewall adjuster and quadrent on my 01 mustang. The firewall adjuster would NOT hold adjustment..... I went with UPR worked better and was cheaper. I replaced my steeda with this and worked great. You will also need a quadrent. They are all about the same~ steeda or upr works here.

I would replace the clutch cable with an OEM steeda has had issues with theirs.

After all this you have to adjust it.... its best to have no slack in the clutch cable and from the top of the petal you only have to push the petal in a half an inch before the clutch starts to slip. This means that you will have to take all the slack out of the cable... in turn this will require you to pull the petal all the way up to its bump stop... making the petal VERY high (sucks... but its how it is) else you can leave it not adjusted correctly (aka flopping around)

The only thing you can do about it is get a maximum motorsport petal height adjuster and lower the bump stop on the clutch petal so you can take the slack out of it (force it onto the bumpstop) and keep the petal lower.

If this made no since it is because people wanted to stand behind me and watch me type and I HATE that and it makes me screw up so ask for me to clear anything up that makes no since.

Re: Steeda Clutch Cable Kit

Well, the Steeda kit should be here Mon or Tues. I'll let you know how it works out.

The kit has been revised and improved according to Steeda, but we shall see.

The OE cable is galvanized steel, which corrodes eventually. Steeda's cable is stainless steel. The OE quadrant is plastic, which flexes/bends on hard shifts, Steeda's is metal. The firewall adjuster better hold, it has been improved since original release.

I may invest in the pedal stop, it definitely sits too high.

Re: Steeda Clutch Cable Kit

if the firewall adjuster has a lock it will be fine, mind did not. Just make SURE you adjust it so the petal has no flop (cant lift up on it from the underside) and you have a half inch of play before it starts to slip. Go 55 mph and hold the gas petal constant and push in the clutch, at a half an inch the rpms will start to raise, thats how you want it. Your clutch petal will be REALLY high but... thats the price you pay to have it adjusted right.

Re: Steeda Clutch Cable Kit

Final feedback on the Steeda kit after several hundred miles of use...

Highly recommended over OE cable only replacement ($79.99 +tax) Spend another $20 on the Steeda kit. Maybe spring for the pedal stop plate if you don't like the typical Mustang high clutch pedal position.

Overall clutch feel is way smoother, yet just enough resistance. Solid billet quadrant makes for precision clutch pedal swing, no flexing. Firewall adjuster is as easy as 1-2-3 turns and stays in adjustment.

The cable made a big difference, my old original had goopy oil and galvonized aluminum shavings inside the cable sheath! The steeda cable isn't galvonized, it's stainless, and adjusts at the clutch fork/bell housing.

The aluminum quadrant is a breeze to install, us Mustang owners know the hardest part was fitting underneath the dash without removing the damn seat! Hard and fast shifts...no worries about flexing or stripping the original plastic gear teeth. Not to mention the factory adjustment is useless.

The firewall adjuster works great! Do your coarse adjustment on the cable at the bell housing then forget getting underneath again for adjustments. Pop the hood and a few one-handed turns of the adjuster determines exactly where your clutch engages.

One negative was having to modify the new cable for use with the firewall adjuster. You have to fight-off a rubber bushing at the end of the new cable. I guess I expected to get a plug-n-play kit.
