Re: help with 96 gt

on the 96 GT you need all the help you can get, if you want to do something thats probably not to expensive but involves tearing into the motor you can go with 99-04 GT (PI) heads this will raise the compression up and raise the hp/tq to 285/300~ vs 215/285 that you are at now.

As far as bolt ons, they will help but not a ton. Rear end gears will be the biggest help for you and I would go with a 3.73 if you do a lot of interstate/hwy driving else 4.10s. A tune helps a ton on auto transmissions to firm up the shifts.

Re: help with 96 gt

I like Borla myself as they have good quality, but sound is subjective, I would listen to audio clips or cars in person to figure out what you like most.

Borla
Magnaflow
Bassani
SLP
Flowmaster

some are going to rust some wont its the price you pay

Re: help with 96 gt

Yah the PI swap is probably the most common bang for the buck mod for the 96-98's. Takes some mechanical know-how and some patience to install but as said will bring you up to 99-04 4.6L specs.

Exhaust is really a personal preference. Flowmasters are known to rust out sooner than others, but that doesn't bother some. Borla and Magnaflow sound real good on the 2v's. I think SLP's belong on GM cars only, but there are some using loudmouths on GT's and Mach 1's...as said, it's a personal preference.

You could look into some udp's, a CAI, and a new plenum, but bolt ons tend to show minimal gains, especially compared to the PI swap.

CAI, o/r x with MIL eliminators, maybe even a plenum spacer. I think the first and best option would be some new gears, you dont mess with the engine and mave so many issues right off the bat.

I have a 90 percent PI swap minus the intake for sale plus headers if you are interested. PM me.
