Re: intercooler

Personally I think that a grill mounted one in front of the radiator would be more efficient than on munted under the hood for the simple fact of the underhood heat from the engine and supercharger. That's just my opinion though. Here's a link to some

Spearco | Intercooler Overview

Re: intercooler

I agree, it works great on the cobras, and seems to be the standard from what I have seen with other mustang installations.

Re: intercooler

it just gives you more distance from the motor so the air should be cooler when it gets to the blower. I was watching some show this weekend where the rear mounted turbos on a Z06 would only drop 1 psi for the length of the travel but they would pick up 100 degrees cooler air by doing so.

Re: intercooler

Front mount will be much better because:

1. It is away from your heat soaked engine compartment.
2. It is getting cooler air pushed onto it from being in front of the car.
3. There is already a nice big spot for one in the front.
4. (related to above reason) you can put a much larger one in the front than you can inside the engine compartment because of space constraints.
5. I believe the STi's have a intercooler sprayer set up that compensates (poorly) for the heat in the engine bay.

Re: intercooler

What kind of blower do you have on your car? Vortech and procharger both make intercooler setup's for a lot of their kits...

nope. the top mount design SUCKS! my buddy has a 06 WRX and lemme tell you, the TMIC(Top Mount InterCooler) gets heat soaked very fast, and takes a long time to cool down. the heat of the engine bay alone soaks it during normal cruising, so on a hot day you go WOT throwing hot air through an already hot IC is not going to make much power.

stick with the FMIC setup. the only drawback is longer piping from the boost source to the throttle body, but the denser air charge more than makes up for it in the end. hell you can use a Ebay FMIC core and fab up your own piping, i went that route on my DSM, and ended up making 5 other kits of the same design for everyone else around me with them. and the ebay cores are just as efficient as the Spearco or Greedy ones, theyre cheaper because they dont have a brand name spray painted to the fins.

Hey i saw that show too. i like powerblock. with the less amount of heat they picked up an extra 50 hp so that more then made up for the pressure drop.
