Max HP question

What is the most HP and Trq anyone has gotten out of a 2V engine on motor only? No SC or Turbo. I'm old school when it comes to who can build the best engine and yes it takes alot of work adn research to get the most out of everything but to me SC's and Trubos are cheating power. Look at Pro Stock NHRA class, massive horse power all carb too. That to me is where it is at then after you have that built then add some juice but if you run them all motor then that shows who knows there stuff, more than just HP alot of tuning also. Look at "Pinks" on Speed channel, most of the races boil down to motor only and no power adder. So back to the question who knows of the baddest 2V motor only?

Re: Max HP question

umm, maybe 300-320ish to the wheels?

now if youre talking a all out n/a modular, a 5.4l bottom end with either a awesome set of 2v head/cams combo or a 4v head/cam combo, ported and polished intake manifold to valves, maybe up the compression ratio a bit, and a awesome tune that any change in weather would need to warrant a appointment to the dyno.

possibly 350 to the wheels. and it would be a very tempermental setup, probably suck at idle and traffic.

there is no replacement for displacement. you cant get much displacement with a modular, which is why if you want to do more than 300ish, youre gonna need to go forced induction or nitrous.

last time i checked, a pro-stock NHRA drag car wasnt close to being able to drive to the grocery store and back.

pinks is ghey. most of the races boil down to who can cry the most and ask for the most car lengths and who does the most bench racing. if they did heads up every time, no head starts or carlengths, it might be different.

Re: Max HP question

I have an article in one of my MM&FF magazines where they made 490HP at the flywheel with a SOHC 4.6. But they had to fab up a intake manifold, and they used two 75MM TB's. Of course they had Ported heads, but I think they used a stock bottom end if I remember correctly. I don't remember much else about it, but I'll see if I can find the article sometime tomorrow.

Re: Max HP question

Ok, thanks just was wondering. I do have the fortune to be blessed with a great engine builder in the family. With his knowledge and know how I am sure we can do alot to a modular engine. I was going to stick with a standard 4.6 block go .30-.60 over with a 4v crank then play with rod and piston combo's to get right where I need to be in compression around 12 or so then look at cam profiles or have one custom made. Will have to experiment with alot of things and see what is a good combination. Alot more dificult with fuel injection compared to carb, but will play with it. Just wanted to see if anyone has gone this route or just went with the SC's. Only thing I don't like about the SC is that it still robs power from the engine where tubos don't but the turbos are not instant power it comes on as you apply the throttle. Plenty of time to go till the project is started. Got to get back to the states first and get my butt out of Afghanistan. Thanks for the input.

Re: Max HP question

not 100% sure but its in the 300s most likely unless they built it with super high compression etc etc for race only. I would just build a 351 or something~ instead of the 2v 4.6`
