Re: X pipes???
the car comes stock with a H-pipe that resides between the headers and cat-back.
you have a wide array of options. you can either get a better H pipe, or a X pipe, and you can get both with or without catalytic convertors. without cats, they flow more and give more power, and are louder, but with cats, theyre legal and a little quieter. Xpipes give a more agressive and raspy sound up top, and Hpipes are a more mellow and deep tone. Xpipes generally do make a small amount more power than a Hpipe, but unless youre running a long tube, catless free flowing exhaust, the difference between the two will be negligible, the only difference for 99% of us is sound. of course, the sound will also depend on catback choice as well.
and no, no way they are 500. maybe if the shop fabbed them up, but then they will use your h-pipes hangers and flanges, and probably still use 2" pressbends. you can buy them from vendors from anywhere between 250-400$ depending on quality and if they have catalytics. you can get a catless h-pipe from mustangtuning.com (now americanmuscle.com) for 160 shipped if i remember correctly.
Bassani is probably what everyone is going to recommend. i have a bassani X pipe and catback combo on my 03 cobra, its ok, everyone else loves it, but i like a more muscle car sound. i have Spintechs (Custom Roush side exhaust setup) and the stock Hpipe on my 02 GT and love that, sounds like Eleanor in Gone in 60 Seconds to the T. when she sells, i will be getting some spintech mufflers for the cobra.
