Would this pressure sender work as a replacement?

I hate how the OEM oil pressure gauge doesn't move with rpm like a high quality gauge would. If I remove the stock pressure sender from where the oil filter is and replaced it with this item from auto meter would it make the gauge move up and down with pressure?

THis is a sender for a short sweep gauge, which is basically what our stock gauge is.

Auto Meter

Just cant see the plug so not sure how I will wire it. Maybe the harness is a standard size?

Re: Would this pressure sender work as a replacement?

It would not, our gauges aren't linked DIRECTLY to the sender, and are buffered.. The signal they get is averaged out, that way it doesn't drop or rise the way the oil pressure actually does (keeps people out of the service garage for unnecessary warranty claims)

If you saw your gauge fluctuate from the bottom to the top of the range without going out of limits.. frequently and often (and you were an average driver used to a typical one-spot gauge) you'd be worried, right?

In other words, to my knowledge (I've been wrong before) a different pressure sender will not make the gauge read differently

A pressure sender + aftermarket gauge WILL read differently

^ It's not that I doubt you but can anyone else confirm this?

So you're saying the return voltage from the sender goes to the ECU?

I just figured since the stock sensor is like 8 bucks that it's just an on/off or pressure/no pressure.

A better sender varies the amount of signal based on pressure, correct?
