2004 Mustang GT turns over but wont start.

I have a 2004 Mustang GT 40th Anniversary that is having some issues. It turns over but won't start. 3-5 mins later it fires up. This has been going on for a month. It's been on the diagnostic machine 3 times, passed twice and failed once. The code for the anti-theft system popped up. I was told I need to get a new key and have it programmed. I did that and I'm still having the same issue. 3 mechanics, my dad and uncle said it could be the ccrm, relay switch, fuel pump, fuel cut off switch, anti-theft system, etc. Please help! Any and all info would so be appreciated.

Well they have the right ideas to begin searching but without actually being able to diagnose the car we play the same guessing game as those guys. Someone needs to actually diagnose the problems.

Has the car been throwing any codes?

To my knowledge with the PATS system not working correctly the car will not even turn over.

It sounds like a fuel issue to me unless you are smelling fluid during these episodes.

Re: 2004 Mustang GT turns over but wont start.

You need to troubleshoot the car off of the code you are getting first.

The anti theif system shuts off the fuel pump so the car won't start.

On the codes it did on the anti-theft system. The mechanic said the chip in the key was failing and suggested I get a new one. The new key worked for one day but the following day it stopped starting on the first turn over. That was the only code that came up. I'm taking it back to Ford with the new keys to see what else they can do.

It does sound more like a fuel problem to me. Have you tried just turning the key to Ignition, wait a few seconds to let the fuel pump prime and then start the car? I noticed my car would have a rough time turning over until I let the fuel pump prime a bit and so I am planning on a new fuel filter and possibly a new pump (more so filter since it hasn't been changed. There is also no emission or fuel smell).

It sounds silly to be the key and PATS system, although I can see a bit of a possibility. It could be electrical. What is the status of your battery (also another possible contributor to my poor start conditions)? The ignition RF sensor may not be able to pick up the key code as key codes very rarely go bad.

I'll try the prime idea. I did get a new fuel filter hoping that would fix the issue. Battery was checked and it's fine. One mechanic thinks it could be the ignition sensor so that will be the next thing to be fixed.

Let us know what you find.

Also if you can tell us the exact code(s) the car is throwing it gives us a better idea on what is going on.
