Odometer ?

The digital odometer on my 99 Cobra recently has been going in and out. Sometimes it's off for a minute or two, sometimes its and hour. Anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I made sure the connectrions were good so thats not it. Is it time to just buy a new cluster?

Re: Odometer ?

you can buy a new cluster but you have to do something to the PATS system I do believe to get it to work.

Re: Odometer ?

Could be the connection of the prongs where your odometer plugs into the circuit board. Or you could have a couple of severed connections on the board itself. If thats the case, or if you don't feel like effing with it at all, you can buy one from ebay. They are around 40-60 bucks, and you can take to your Ford dealership and have them reprogram the circuit board to your car. You will have to take both keys with you for the program. I know this because I just replaced a circuit board with one from a cluster I bought off ebay. My dealership charged me $106 total for it.

Re: Odometer ?

They originally told me 80, but after the taxes and something else (cant remember off hand) , it came to be 106, so I would estimate around 90 or so. Turns out my gauges weren't working because of the bad circuit board.

And one other thing, if you do buy another cluster, it won't start with the new one installed, so leave the old one in and take the new one to the dealership, and then you can put the new one in there and they will program it. I did the install in the parking lot and just let him program it, so the mechanic didn't have to do any work besides the computer programming. It took a total of about 30 minutes, in and out.

Re: Odometer ?

I took it out and put it back in to check the connections. It hasn't went off again yet. Thanks for all the info.

Hopefully a lose connection will be your only concerns.

Re: Odometer ?

Well problem not resolved. It started doing it again. Guess I am just going to have to get a new one and take it to the Dealership. Damn, trying to save money for new parts for the car not stupid odometers lol.

Whatever you do, DO NOT ask the dealership to order one for you. They told me that it would cost over $400 to get one from Ford. Try to find one in decent shape from ebay/amazon.
