Re: getting a short shifter-questions

If all you want is a "short throw" get a shorter shifter handle. All aftermarket shifters are better built than stock shifters. I haven't found one better than the other just found some to look better than others like the one you linked, too bad you have to cover up that $200 work of art. I use a Kirban shifter, lifetime warranty, silky smooth and very quiet. When others say one is better than the other it's usually because they own it. Any of them will do you well.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

BTW a short throw shifter shortens the distance the handle travels to engage the next gear.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

yeah, the only reason it makes you faster is that your throw is shorter for the next gear... it's not a huge difference... just might make the car feel more sporty.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

Purpose of one, as stated, is to shorten the distance between gears. It allows for quicker shifting. They also replace all the mush from the stock shifter with a solid feel that makes it pretty much impossible to miss a shift unless your clutch foot gets quick. A stock shifter makes it real easy to miss 3rd because of all the slop in the shifter. You won't miss 3rd with a short throw.

As for brand, the one you linked to is the only one you need to look at. MGW is bad ***. I love mine...as does everyone else on here that has one.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

I thought about getting one, but I got lazy... and I enjoy the GT a lot now, and don't wanna drop a bunch of money into it.. since the gas tank takes so much

Once you have ever drove a mustang with a short throw you wonder why you didnt get it earlier. The stock shifter is a POS... it just sucks.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

I drove my buddy's Roush... with short throw... I didn't think it was "that" special. Maybe I would appreciate it more now that I'm comfortable with the stick.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

Was the the OEM roush shifter that they put in it? Some just have a handle and some have a roush shifter... I dont think either are very nice. Drive one with a steeda or Mgw.

Agreed. About the only thing i'd buy from steeda is the tri ax shifter. Everyone around here seems to love the MGW, though.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

The MGW is not 100000x better than the steeda or pro 5.0 it is just better quality. My only issue is its not quite as "springy" as I had wanted.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

You really dont need the shift stops unless you shift WAY to hard to begin with. I would leave them out or leave them turned back a good bit to make SURE you dont have any issues with them.

Re: getting a short shifter-questions

/\ Yes sir. Ford actually released a info email or whatever the hell they call them, warning people who use aftermarket shifter with the stops. They warn that if you set the stops to far in, you can burn up the syncros, since the gear doesn't really go all the way into gear.

If you set the stops correctly, they aren't a bad thing.

Which is what I did. I left slack in it from, but also set the stops in it to where the stops stop the shifter instead of the factory ones.
