Exhaust Leak Help

What problems can an exhaust leak cause? Someone told me that I have a leak and I was wondering if it is something that needs to get fixed right away and if it is causing my idle problems.

Re: Exhaust Leak Help

well if its pre-cats itll cause the exhaust to try to go out the leak area instead of going through the catalytics. if its a leak before the upstream o2 sensors (closest to the engine) the o2's wont read what they should and may throw a code. in that case the only place there could be a leak is between the manifold and downtubes.

can you hear a leak? when you get on it does the car sound like crap, like a high pitched raspy sound coming from under the car?

Re: Exhaust Leak Help

The guy at autozone said he thinks there is a leak but I dont know much about it. It lost its raspy sound and idles really high. Whenever I shift, the rpms stay at the spot i shifted at and fall really slow.

Re: Exhaust Leak Help

the slow drop of rpm is a mustang thing. most of it due to the tune. unless yours drops extra slow...

you might try cleaning out your IAC and cleaning the maf for starters. take carb cleaner to the iac and electronic cleaner (usually next to the carb cleaner at autozone) and spray the maf with it. could be the throttle position sensor :dunno:
