front brakes

Is there a tool that I can use to take the bolts off to change the brake pads. the bolt with the star pattern head bolt. I tried to use a good hand tool but the bolts are in to tight. Any suggestions? (bolts that hold the calliper in)

Re: front brakes

For the front calipers there are two 15 mm bolts on the back side (there are actually 4 bolts dont remove the wrong ones, the ones you want to remove are bolted through the caliper into the spindle)

Those are on tight so you will need to turn the steering wheel to the side so you can get a long breaker bar with a HARD 6 sided (ONLY) socket (craftsman aka replacable and have a spare...) you can fit the breaker bar on the side that the caliper is on and it is usually pretty easy. Just take them out and then slide the caliper off. If you want your rotors off they might have a little metal ring on one or two of the wheel studs you have to cut off to pull it off. They may not it just depends.

Just be easy and slide the new pads in and bolt them back up. Make sure the little metal clip on the top of the caliper doenst fall out and if it does put it back in, so look at how its in there before you take the caliper off.

When they go back on tq them to 95~ ftlbs at least. For the rear you need a special square tool to get the piston compressed back down to put them back on so FYI on that.
