Anyone tuning their own car?

After my last trip to get the car tuned, and talking with the tuner, I've decided to start tuning my own car. I downloaded the instructional cd today for the SCT pro racer package to start getting familiar with it and the concepts involved. Sometime later this year or just after the new year I am going to get the pro racer package. Luckily, my tuner offered to send me the tune files he made for me to use as a base for my tuning.

However, I was wondering if anyone else on here has been tuning their own 96+ car? What have you been using to tune with?

I'm looking forward to digging into the tune and seeing what all is going on instead of just looking over someone's shoulder.

I was almost hands on tuning my car in the beginning...always watching over the shoulder, asking questions, etc. Had a lot of things explained to me on how they affect stuff. I just figure it's time I start doing this myself. I work with computers and code daily, I should be able to figure out a car's computer as well.

Plus, it's only a $150 fee for each additional car I prove ownership of to be able to fully tune that car as well.

Re: Anyone tuning their own car?

A friend of mine has a snap-on modis scan tool "I believe its the modis could be wrong" but he can tune computers with it and we are going to attemp to tune mine. I will also buy the sct tuner just in case we mess something up.

I have an XCal 2 already, and you can tune kinda...the PRP allows nearly 100% full control.
