Seat Upgrade

I have a 97 GT with manual Cloth seats, I was wanting to know if it was possible to upgrade the seats. I would like to upgrade the seats to some with better headrests along with more comfortable seats. I would like to find some similar to the seats in the '03 Cobra. I would like to upgrade from cloth to leather. Any Ideas on what models would fit without major wiring issues?

Re: Seat Upgrade

Well if you want you can keep it manual and bolt your seat brackets to the cobra seats you can use just about any year from 79-04 but I would stay in the 94-04 year range so the seat style will look right. you maybe able to go newer but I don't know this for sure. Also If your car didn't come with power seats you will have to wire it up, but it shouldn't be to hard I think there is only two wires that go to the seat wich is + & -.

You may want to look into mustangs with the actual 40th anniversary package for 2004 Mustangs. I have a Crimson Red one and the seat have special headrest included with the seat. They are much bigger than the standard ones, but I think Parchment was the only interior option on the 40th anniversary packages. Remember, all 2004 have 40th anniversary on the fender but only a few came with the 40th anniversary package. Only 3 colors where White, Black and Crimson Red for exterior colors

Re: Seat Upgrade

That wouldn't really go with my Black Interior, although my seats are more of a charcoal color, I was actually referring to the headrests on the 03-04 cobra seats. surely ford offered them on other high end seat options for the GT's perhaps?

I don't think any "regular or premium" GT's got that headrest. It looks like only 03-04 Mach 1, 03-04 Cobra, and 40th anniversary package Mustangs got the bigger headrest. All other models got the tiny headrest, I think...

Re: Seat Upgrade

I think the 4 way headrest might be part of an IUP (Interior Upgrade Package)

Re: Seat Upgrade

I have been researching the Mustang Owners Manuals, up until 2002, there is only mention of 2 way headrests, in 2003 is the appearance of the 4 way headrest. That doesn't include the Cobra (Has its own SVT Supplement) Anybody else come up with any other information?

Re: Seat Upgrade

03/04 cobra seats in good condition with no tears etc will set you back 600-1000 bucks depending on how nice they are etc (could include back seats as well for a bit more im sure)

You can also get mach 1 seats from 03/04 mach 1s that are nice. I like the 94-98 GT/Cobra leather seats look wise. Support wise cobra or mach 1 will be best (factory seat wise)

The plug for the power seat wont work on older ones, probably an easy thing to fix (get the right plug on the car harness~) but FYI if you get a cobra set it has bolsters and such you cant adjust if the seat has no power so adjust it in someones car before putting it in yours if you go with a manual seat rack.

Re: Seat Upgrade

Ok thanks for all of the help, I have found what seat options were offered for the mustangs, Thanks to Hollander Interchange! The 4 way headrest is available with or without the sport seats, offered in either cloth or leather and with or without power seats, available in sever configs, ranging from 2001-2004 Mustangs.

Re: Seat Upgrade

Yah I'd suggest either the 03/04 Cobra/Mach 1 seats or the leather 96-98 cobra seats...they were decent with better support than the 99-04 v6/GT seats.

Some 04 GT's came with the taller, adjustable headrests available on the 03/04 Mach 1's/Cobras, but the seats themselves don't offer much in thigh/lumbar support. You could probably find those along with the pre 99 cobra seats for the cheapest price.
