Quick 8.8 question

I know this is a stupid question, but I had a question about the 8.8 rear in the 99-04 GTs. Is the stock differential a 1 tire-fire limited slip like the V6's 7.5 rear end? Or does it have a trac-lock differential that allows both wheels to spin. I only ask because I think I will be upgrading my rear end to an 8.8 soon and found one that was recently rebuilt with 3.55 gears/new shims etc etc and the owner only wants $450 for it, but it still has the stock differential and i'm sick of 1 tire fires, but more importantly i think this time next year i will finally be rid of my 3.8L and join the 4.6L club as i'll be swapping in a used GT motor/manual trans. But basically I just wanted to know this because I see a lot of 8.8 traction-lock differential talk here and there and was wondering if this is something I should do, or is the stock GT rear good as is.
Thanks guys.

The 8.8 comes with it. It should hold up to quite a bit of power.

Re: Quick 8.8 question

Saweeet. I thought it did, but couldn't remember and then going on ebay doesn't help because there are a thousand trac locks for sale for the 8.8.

Re: Quick 8.8 question

Yah the stock 8.8" differentials in the GT's, Cobras, Mach 1's, etc all have a traction lok differential that allows power to both wheels equalling better traction, launches, and of course 2 wheel burnouts.

The rearend literally bolts right up where the 7.5" sits. There are upgraded, stronger differentials available for the 8.8", but I doubt you'd need one. The stock one should be fine...it is much stronger than the stock 7.5". I'd check with the owner of that 8.8" and find out whether he rebuilt the t-lok. If not, pick up a kit from American Muscle and you'll be set.
