The DOHC motor really responds well to bolt ons. With an air intake, good flow through exhaust, and a tune you might make around 350. For 400, you will probably need to work on the engine. Heads/cam/intakes etc.

the 4v's are good but i highly doubt with everything imagineable bolted on itll make close to 400. maybe if it was a high compression 5.4 4v stroker with a awesome set of cams, PnP heads/intake, the works. but then you just spend the equavilent of a supercharger and all its support it will ever need.
you can always do the above and add nitrous if its still not enough.

But building up a 4V is going to BE DAM HIGH. You are looking at 1000 bucks just for cams(4 cams for 250 a piece through comp, you do the math), plus the heads are going to be more expensive than that.
The 4V head design(STOCK) flows enough air to maximize a 429 ci motor. Making it flow more won't help you that much for the amount of money you have to put into it. You really just need to focus on other ways of getting more air/fuel into the motor.

It can be done, I have seen 450/450~ on a NA 4.6 DOHC but its not cheap.

Like previously stated, all the boltons, some cams and ported heads. You could also build the motor and run a higher compression ratio. If you build a 400+ N/A 99/01 Cobra, throw in some 4.30's, and do some suspension mods you would probably have a pretty bad ass car for racing on a road course.

There is a guy on 3.8 that has a `01 he bought used. The previous owner said he "done some mods to the engine', without saying what. When the guy bought it from the dealer, they didn't know either. Well he's done a few things to it since then and it recently ran a 10.8 I think it was. Some suspect that the bottom end was changed with added compression, and that it might be bored or stroked :dunno:
Either way, it is a NA DOHC that is running 10's...

You have to pay to play and if you have the cash, by all means GO FOR IT .
