Question Preformance upgrades advise for my 98gtvert

Hey guys,
I've loved my chrome yellow spring Ed 98gt ever since I drove it off the showroom floor. I've had a lot of fun with this car! However, over the last year or two she hasn't been as much fun to drive. I've even considered selling her but I can't bear it! So I purchased some new wheels & flow master 40s to keep me excited about driving it again. Last week, I was diagnosed with a big crack on my original intake manifold near the port for the heater hoses so I had it replaced. When I drove it home from the shop it was like I was driving it off the showroom floor again. All that lost power was suddenly found again. Ever since then I can stop thinking about modifying my engine to get more preformance & power!! After reading other threads I'm thinking about getting 3:73 gears, CAI, new throttle body, and lowering the suspension. Before doing this, I wanted to ask the pros about your thoughts on brands for these parts & whether you thought my money would be better spent on different mods. Here are the parts that I almost purchased last night:

BBK 78mm Mustang Throttle Intake (96-04 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

BBK Cold Air Intake (96-04 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Ford Racing 3.73 Gears (86-11 GT) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Ford Racing Mustang C-Springs (79-04) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

Thanks for your help!!

One thing to consider also If you're automatic is a 2500-3000 stall converter it will liven it up quiet a-bit.

I have the eibach pro kit springs for your car new in the box and unused or installed I would sell you for $180 if you are interested. American muscle item #47508

Also if this is not your daily driver I would suggest a little steeper for the gears so you really feel it. I have the 4.30's but not installed yet. But it's what you like. Look at some gear calculators and decide what rpm you would want to be at while at a particular speed. And what you want your top speed to be.

The 4.30's let me go 150 mph which is enough and highway at 3000rpm for 80mph which is fine for me but maybe not you so you need to know what you want.

The bigger throttle body is worthless unless your super/turbocharged. Save the $200 and put it elsewhere. I wouldn't go any higher than 3.73 gears on the 5 speed unless you're building a race car. Also check into a PI head swap, which is essentially putting heads from any 99-04 GT into your '98, as that will free up about 40-50 hp

PI head swap sounds great but I just had a new intake manifold installed within the last 2 weeks. Any other ideas guys?

What about under drive pulleys? Worth the money? Will I need to get a bigger alternator?

You won't have to replace the alternator, just the pulley. You put a larger pulley on the alternator and water pump, and a smaller pulley on the crank.

Cool. Steed pulleys good or BBK? Aluminum or steel? Do the kits come with that bigger alternator pulley?

The kits come with all the necessary supplies. As for the brand, that's personal preference. If it were my car I'd go with this Steeda kit from American Muscle

Also I would go with aluminum pulleys since they are lighter than steel.

Re: Preformance upgrades advise for my 98gtvert

haha!! you need to take a look at mine! I replaced the intake manifold too but want with ba ford racing one olny 20 dollars difference in price but good preformance value. ....now my car is stupid fast but hear are a few things to consider that I did with my baby. ok umm PROCHARGER!!! ...headers, no cats, flowmasters, venom fuel pump, steeda complete suspension, throttle body, steeda intake, racing ECU ....from japan of all places but hey the car isnt limited anymore so that means 168 mph, lighter fly wheel, stage 2 clutch, new proformance cams ...to name a few good luck with it!!!
