I say chips are of the past for a normal dd or lightly/mildly modded street car. A handheld tuner with interchangeable tunes is the way to go.
Throw on the economy/mpg booster tune for a long trip. Going to the track the next day? Plug the tuner in, swap in your 93 octane race tune and you're set to go (with the addition of 93 octane of course).
If you add mods or change wheel/gear sizes you can simply have your tune updated and uploaded.
There are multiple vendors who offer the tuner packages and some such as American Muscle who has now partnered with Bama Chips offer free tunes for life.
