1996 2V to 6.8 Triton

I have recently come across two things at a very affordable price. A 1996 Mustang GT (Blown headgasket) And a 6.8 V10 out of a wrecked (rear collision) '01 F250. Is there any possibility of such an engine swap? If anyone has or know any one that has done this let me know. If it is possible, what needs to be aquired besides the engine? Since it is a modular engine, are the motor mounts the same? What about cooling system. Also will the T45 out of the 96 GT bolt on? Or would a new tranny have to be sourced. Any advise would be appreciated.

It has been done several times but the end result to me isnt really worth that much. I know for a fact MM&FF did an article on a silver mustang that they put a V10 into a bit back.

Re: 1996 2V to 6.8 Triton

The V10 mustang in MM&FF did not use the 6.8L V-10. It was basically a 4.6 with an extra set of cylinders added on. It took the displacement to 5.8L, which is why they named it the Boss 351. The 2001 6.8 only made 310 hp since it was a 2V. The new ones make 360 now since they went with 3V heads. They are also iron block, which will make it heavy. I think you would be able to get a lot more power from rebuilding the 4.6 thats in it now. If the 6.8 would by some miracle fit, i think you would be pretty limited in aftermarket parts too.

Re: 1996 2V to 6.8 Triton

Thanks. It does make more sense to just go with the 4.6. A set of PI heads/intake and a blower would do wonders. And all I could find for the 6.8 was a Kenne Bell, and some tuning software. But just out of pure interest I am still wondering if this is a possible swap.
