Question Fuel efficiency

Hi everyone,

Is there is a way to make my 02GT more fuel efficient? I know that keeping rpms low help a little, but I'm wondering if any of you guys out there know other ways like bolt-ons or other meassures.

Thanks

Do you drive in the city or interstate? Not really a whole lot you can do either way though. Its not meant for fuel economy.

Re: Fuel efficiency

Regular upkeep along with exhaust/intake/underdrive pulley etc will help (breather easier) it will make more power so you have to not abuse said power lol

change oil, change coolant, transmission fluid change, rear end fluid change (if 100k or so), air filter change (intake will do this as it comes with filter), clean injectors, replace fuel filter (must do every 20k miles at least), some run seafoam to clean out carbon deposits, clean MAF sensor, spark plugs check/replace.

The above only works if its needed~ upkeep helps the car run better and longer~ you might not pick up 20mpg but you should see improvements of around 2-3mpg if the car is need of a little TLC (with those mods above of course).

Also go 55-60 on the interstate vs 70-75 (i know it SUCKS) but it will improve mileage.

A tuner also may help.

Re: Fuel efficiency

Thanks for all the useful information. It has just over 78k miles. I'll start with a tune up. By the way, when should the spark plugs be replaced?

Re: Fuel efficiency

I change them every year whether I need to or not, But are good for 50,000 at least. Some manufactures say 100,000.

Re: Fuel efficiency

Yah generally the stock plugs in the v6's/GT's are good to 80,000-100,000 miles. But it never hurts to change them out...especially if you just bought the car recently with slightly higher miles like that.

Re: Fuel efficiency

Yea, change the plugs, clean the throttle body & mass air flow, make sure and use a clean air filter, and run some seafoam through the gas tank and vacuum line from the brake booster to the upper intake manifold.

Be sure your PCV valve is working correctly and change all your fluids (diff, trans, and oil) regularly along with correct tire pressure. Using synthetic fluids always helps out as it lowers operating temperatures and tend to have additional additives that are beneficial.

Some other methods could include a specific tune designed to increase gas mileage, but I doubt it would make much of a difference once you compare money spent to length of time you would take you make the money back.
