Re: Best lowering spings for 2003 Cobra

Piece of cake to install. Your best bet is the H&R race springs. They don't come in a convertible spring rate, but that's fine. Spector has them on his car so you can see the amount of lowering they give.

My car has cut stockers right now...I have the front coil over kit to install but am waiting till I get the rear kit and do it all at once.

If you want to dump a lot of money, coil overs would be your best bet. However, you're going to drop a good bit of coin on both the front and rear kits...specially if you want to keep good street manners or handle turns moreso than going straight due to having to replace the shocks and struts (maximum motorsports doesn't recommend stock vert shocks/struts with the needed spring rates for a good twisty car).

American muscle is supposed to have a discount code for members that I'm sure we have to PM them for....Brent will know more about the status of this as it is new. However, if not, PM me and I'll give you a discount code to a couple other sites where you can get the springs as well. One is $10 savings with free shipping, the other is 3 or 5% plus shipping.

ALSO: Do you have the full mod list for your car? Like, did they replace the IRS bolts at all? If not, you'll want to do this as well.

Re: Best lowering spings for 2003 Cobra

most with coil overs dont like them for noise and such, steer clear of those (I would). Go with H&R race leave one isolator out in the front leave both in for the rear (use the OEM isolators dont buy different than factory ones if you replace them).

Mine is 26.0 front / 26.5 rear (ground to under edge of middle of fender lip)

They are 720lbs front and rear but ride quite well (500 is stock for 03 cobra verts front/rear)

as said install is very easy, I wrote an install article you can read over in the article section. The IRS you just need to remove the catback, unbolt the shock, unbolt the back IRS frame bolt (where the button head bolts or low profile head bolts go) and swing it down a bit and the springs fall out

Great time to do an IRS brace if you have not, button head/low profile bolts, and the CORRECT 14mm front IRS frame bolts.

Thanks PureVenom!!! That is very helpful. So you are saying I can not used the stock struts with the new springs. I have done this before on other cars and I did not need to.

I've heard the same thing and actually talked with MM about it. It appears that many go with 12-14" long springs when they do coil overs. MM recommends 10" springs. The longer springs bow and bang around causing noise then people complain about it.

MM said the shock/struts were ok rate wise to work with the H&R race springs so I didnt change mine out they are still the OEM ones.

Ok I found them for $235 s/h included on ECS Tuning. Can I get them any cheaper anywhere else?

Right, I was referring to the coil over rates only.

PM NQSperformance (John@NQS is his user id on here). He is a site sponsor. I was able to save a good bit on parts from maximum motorsports...His website has them at 259 for the springs, however he does have a discount for members.

Like was mentioned before though, look into the low profile IRS bolt (rear of IRS frame) and the correct 14mm IRS bolt (front of IRS frame). It will prevent clunk and make room for wider meats...assuming this is not done already. Maximum Motorsports has these bolts.

PureVenom,

Is this what you are referring to about replacing the IRS brace?

Re: Best lowering spings for 2003 Cobra

yea thats the brace I have, here is their site link IRS Brace

price it on a few sites as well as lethalperformance.com see where the best deal is. You can get them in sonic blue I think but you cant see them from behind the car.

What do you mean, round out?

And full tilt only has the front bolts...not the rears.

I think it was spec that suggested it...maybe I did...but yes, you want that brace if you are currently unbraced. You should be able to get it directly from billetflow without much issue.....lethal performance also has it and is 159 but I have a code to save 5%....so you may want to compare prices with shipping to get the best deal.

Also, like spec said, don't worry about color. The only time you can see it is if you are laying under the car or the rear end is out of the car.

Re: Best lowering spings for 2003 Cobra

Dang...I'm late on the draw here lol.

H&R race springs definitely. Both bottom isolator in front and both in rear.

Stock shocks/struts are fine, I'm still running mine.

Billetflow brace is the one to get.

The MM low profile bolts are fine. I've taken mine in and out probably a dozen times with no issues. I believe people are stripping them out by not taking the load off the bolt before attempting to remove them. You have to put a jack under the IRS and lightly raise to take the load off. I've never ran into any issues putting them in or taking them out.
