Strange squeak

Hey guys,
When I start up my 03 GT there is a slight squeak noise. I thought it was due to the belt, but when I popped the hood I didn't hear it any more.

When I got back inside, I pushed my clutch in and the squeaking stopped. I let the clutch out in N and it started right up again. It only does it from a cold start, once the engine warms up it stops. Not exactly sure what's goin on, any ideas? Also I live in FL so in never gets too cold. (except For the past week or so) An It's been doing it now for about a month.

Re: Strange squeak

My guess is, that would be your throwout bearing..

With no load on it (clutch pedal out..) it's spinning independently.. As soon as you load it up it'll go away.

My guess also is it will get worse over time, it may be going away now after heating up as metal expands/contracts/etc...

Depends on what you consider tough. You have to drop the transmission to get at the throwout bearing. If it was my car I would probably replace the clutch while I was in there. I've only replaced one clutch in my life (on my RX7) wasn't that hard but you definately need a buddy to help.

Re: Strange squeak

Sounds like a TOB problem. If it continues to get worst I would recommend replacing it.

Re: Strange squeak

you can stop the noise a bit by self adjusting your clutch quadrant to take up a click or two of slack. This may/may not fix it (at least for a bit)

If u do decide to replace the throw
Out bearing make sure the retainer sleeve is not worn out Bc the retainer sleeve is part of the bell housing which is integrated which sucks if you do the bearing check everything cover your ***. I had to drop my trans twice in 3 days Bc the sleeve good luck
