Just changed plugs on 99 cobra, tubes filled with oil??!!

I just changed the spark plugs in my 99 cobra for the first time and almost all of the tubes were filled with oil!! some covering the spark plug all the way, some just covering half the plug. I used a rag and screwdriver to put in the hole before removing the plug so not as much would go in the motor, but obviously some did. I would start it after each plug install to burn out the oil. after they were all changed, it smoked for about 1/2 mile while it all burned out, then no more oil out the back. What is the cause of this? do i just need the valve cover gaskets replaced, or is it more serious?

As stated in your other post.. It is most likely (95% chance) that it is the valve cover gasket, as you'd suggested -

It's likely not more serious but it'd be a good idea to take care of it before you start seeing misfires due to oil shorting out the plug/ deteriorating the coil boots

When I worked as a Ford tech, it was very common for all the 4V motors to do this.. and some of the 2V (oddly more in the crown vic than the other 4.6s..)

How hard or easy is it to change them all out? I called my local shop and they want 4 hours to do them both, $310 with parts!

Try doing it on a Mach 1 got to remove hydro boost and master cylinder and then remove shaker, then heater hose on pass side , fuel line , throttle body. So make sure you get a gasket for the t-body to
