Just bought 99 Cobra

I just bought a 1999 Cobra mustang with 107,xxx miles and its been pampered all its life by an older man and woman. Would like to do some minor upgrades. just wanted some opinions about whats the most bang for the buck! Also i have been looking up the common problems with these cars. Like the plugs blowing out the heads, cracked intake, clunking while shifting gears. And im sure there are alot more but are these anything i should be worried about. First on my list is to change plugs, should i go with stock plugs or different brand?

First I would is change all the fluids front to back! I like to use NGK plugs in my 4 valve and then i would swap out the clutch quadrant to a adjustable type
Next up would do a C&L cold air intake then go from there anyway post up some pics of the car sounds like you got a great deal

That is a great start for any project. I would just have some fun and maybe do an exhaust, x- pipe, and do some interior customizing.

Re: Just bought 99 Cobra

welcome, check to see if it has the "fix" done as 99 cobras were producted without the rated hp/tq and ford did a couple things to fix them.

Re: Just bought 99 Cobra

You can take the title with vin# to any Ford dealer and have them run it through their system to see if the recall was done.....I would start there, that's the first thing I did after I bought the 99 CORBA I had.

Definitely some 4.10 gears and exhaust. Tuning would also help. Agree with the tune up and quadrant. Keep the stock cable and get a firewall adjuster.

Re: Just bought 99 Cobra

thanks for all the inputs, i forgot to mention that the car already has flowmasters, not sure if there cat back or not, havent looked.
I did see on here where the 99 cobras had the hp/tq recall but
if it hasnt been fixed then they should fix it regardless of how long i waited! lol
i was thinking about a cai w/ programmer....??? for one of the first upgrades

Just pull off the silencer unless you wanna spend money on a cai... Silencer removal is free. Gears for sure. I went with 3.90s and I cross the line at redline in 4th.3.73 minimum tho.

I believe that's it but I would still go by a Ford dealership and run that vin#
