Gas ?

I use only premium gas in my GT, is there any thing else I should put in my gas tank to help keep the engine run clean and for better performance?

Re: Gas ?

unless tuned for premium its a waste of money. The octane you need is based on the vehicles tune, if tuned for better gas (91 or 93) then of course use it.

I run fuel injection cleaner in it every oil change (the good stuff) thats about it. As said above unless tuned for higher octane or your gas is bad (87 isnt really 87) you wont see any performance gain from going to premium on your car.

Well most regular and mid-grade fuels contain ethanol which has less btu thereby less power per drop. I have noticed mileage drops of at least 10% as compared to using shell v-power. And my car will sputter and idle roughly when using shell regular or mid-grade. Spector is correct that if your car isn't tuned for it the octane doesn't improve mileage however the fact that premium at most stations are ethanol absent that will improve your mileage. And believe it or not I have found that torko synthetic 2 stroke oil when mixed 1 ounce per 10 gallons improved my mileage by 2 mpg. I keep very accurate fuel stats. I have found that my car runs best on shell v-power but bc has chevron 94 octane ethanol free and that stuff is like rocket fuel in my mustang.

I have also read in the gas savers forum that acetone can help mileage. I use seafoam every second oil change however to keep intake valves vacuum lines fuel system and crankcase free from build up and sludge. I heard about seafoam about a year ago and thought what the heck try it out. My trick has 300000 kms and after a seafoam treatment it ran like the day I rolled it off the lot. I swear by it now

Re: Gas ?

seafoam is good stuff, they say not to use it on cars with root/twin screw blowers... but it might be fine in the fuel system vs intake system.

I put it in crankcase about 1000kms before oil change to loosten up any gunk so it doesn't clog filter on new change

Re: Gas ?

the only real difference in octane is the way that the fuel explodes, for instance 93 octane will explode more uniformly than 91, or 87. They test these in bomb calorimeters and in order to see how the fuel explodes. And scientifically speaking the energy difference is not significant and should not affect your fuel economy in a gas combustion engine, beyond that it will affect your gas mileage because our engines were not built at compression ratios for larger percent composition ethanol. You should not purchase gas at an octane above your tune b/c its just a waste of money

And becuase it detinates at an incorrect time in the combustion chamber which causes pinging among other problems. Higher Octanes serve no purpose on an improperly tuned vehicle.

Re: Gas ?

also you cant mix five gallons of 87 and five gallons of 93 and get some higher than 87 value (not always) as it depends on the scotch value of the gas how it mixes.

I know plenty of girls who work on cars... it brings their scale rating up a few points sometimes (you know, 1 to 10 ratings!)

Re: Gas ?

not making fun of anyone, just saying you cant mix gas grades, just an FYI kinda thing~ i mean some do its not going to destroy the car but it wont raise the octane like most think~ not in all cases.
