Need Exhaust Help.

Hey guys, Im still fairly new here but I have a 97 Gt Cvt and love it. It's my first mustang, but deff won't be my last. I bought it with an off road h pipe and flowmasters. I can get away without cats cause I dont need an inspection every year and really love the sound. But my issue is the flanges for the flowmasters have rusted out, and they seem to have sone bad blow back at higher rpms. It sounds like I drive a tractor rather than a stang lol. So any exhaust ideas would be great I love that deep rumble, and classic muscle sound and would love to keep it like that. I'd like to see some 3in or 3.5in tips as well. Any ideas?

Re: Need Exhaust Help.

where exactly is the rust? just where the catback bolts up or around the welds on the muffler to the exhaust pipe?

Yeah, I've been looking at an SLP Loudmouth catback since the h pipe is fine.
The rust in on the flanges. Not a speck of rust on the exhaust it's self just the flang part where it bolts to the h pipe

Re: Need Exhaust Help.

some weld on flowmasters to the stock catback and some buy the entire catback, if its the OEM catback it probably wouldnt have rusted at least I dont think

No it's an aftermarket h pipe and the cat backs are flowmasters. I think if I take it in I can have it welded. But that blow back doesn't sound to good either. So I'm kinda at a lose to what I should do. Buy a new exhaust or try and have this one fixed?

Re: Need Exhaust Help.

you can perhaps cheaply fine a used OEM catback with welded in mufflers for a very reasonable price~ or buy an OEM catback (take off) with the OEM mufflers and have someone weld in new mufflers. You can always check to see what the repair will run you... but you may just be patching one hole to end up with another.

catbacks are not that expensive in aluminized (aka will rust) but they eventually fail as yours seems to have.

Right. Hm I guess I can see if the shop can try and weld the flowmasters to the h pipe. But then if I do that when I get the cash to buy a new exhaust I'd have to but a new h pipe as well so that would be more money at the end of the day. I'm moving the Pheonix feb 4 for auto and deslie mechanic school so I won't have to worry about rust in the near future. I think I may call my local shop and see how much it will cost to weld that together.
