Custom tunes question.

Would I see any noticeable improvements with a custom tune? Only engine mods are CAI , cat-less exhaust? Or should I spend $$ on more mods before changing from stock tune?

Re: Custom tunes question.

a tune will help, it seems 96-04 pick up between 10-15rwhp depending on how good the tune is and what modifications are done. I would personally get all the bolt ons then tune it. The key to a tune is who does it, you cant just buy an SCT tuner and use the off the shelf tune and be done with it as thats not nearly the optimal tune for the car. There are probably many really good tuners in your area that can help you out~ just got to find them.

Re: Custom tunes question.

its a mach 1 (different heads, and other stuff) not a 2v GT and it also depends on many factors~ on average you dont get a ton from a tune. Mine picked up quite a bit but thats just how my car is also.

A knock sensor is in your motor. Is senses spark knock and will ****** timing til the knock is neutralized. It's a safety feature in case you get crappy gas

Yes you will see an improvement from a custom tune. Ford sends cars out with a conservative tune so they don't push the envelope.

Re: Custom tunes question.

I wonder if Stang-Hi in Baton Rouge turns of the knock sensor? I should go to them and tell them to UNLOCK my X3 Tuner! For some reason he locked it so I would have to come back to him.

What year is your car. I don't think the 99-04 2v has a knock sensor. I will have to check my haynes manual when I get home.

You would likely get another 20ish hp from a custom tune.

a tune that was not dyno'ed to check is probably not a very good one, or at least not one that is the best it can be. Its always best to get a tune either done while its being dynoed or get a tune in the mail and verity it on a dyno for saftey and send the data logs back to the tuner to update and repeat until happy. Thats the fun process I had to go through

the 03/04 4v cobras dont have knock sensors so its VERY important they are tuned right with no detonation. I had a little when I first got my tune that I found out was bad gas then I had a little under light load going WOT that I had to get fixed via data logging/ dyno and tune updates.
