Optima Battery!!!

Anyone have any experience, rants, or raves about these batteries? I am looking for extended audio time with car turned off, looks and dependability. REd top, yellow top?

Re: Optima Battery!!!

If you want a good battery for your audio go with Duralast from auto zone.
Put one of these in every car at my house and my dad's car has gone for a good 1hr to 2hrs listening to radio with the car off.

Re: Optima Battery!!!

I have a red top...have had it for about a year now. I like it. I don't need extended audio with the radio off type stuff tho. I got it because my stocker was dying after 6 years and it had a red top to match my engine bay. I'll be getting a yellow top for the fox for the same reason.

However, I have had my radio on for 3-4 hours without issue while working in the garage...

I've got one in my truck. Mustang next. They are lighter and not acid filled so they don't leak acid everywhere. Had mine for a couple years now and no issues at all.

Never did that much research on it. Went with the red. The guy at the place where I bought it recommended it for my application.

Re: Optima Battery!!!

not sure its storage will be more, probably will, but that is what matters when it comes to how long it will last without charging~ they have a great reputation though.

If you have the OEM one it might be wise to consider changing, mine cranked fine, drive fine, then BAM dead wouldnt even jump....

also keep a close eye on your heat exchanger pump, heck might as well order a new one and install it and a heat exchanger if you are bored as they are known to go bad and there is NO warning light NO nothing... you find out the hard way (temps)

Re: Optima Battery!!!

I didn't have good luck with the three I had "red top" all three died around 4-5 months but thats when they first started coming out for sale, They may have improved on their workmanship but I'd go with the yellow top with the sonic blue car.

I highly recommend against using rpm outhouse....do a search here and pretty much any other mustang forum and you will see why.

Also, the only thing that cool pack is, is a heat exchanger. The fluids can be had at any auto parts store...and the radiator resevoir if it is a canton has been known to split.

Check LethalPerformance.com for their cooling packs...but I really suggest against rpm outhouse.

Thanks for the warning. I have not bought anything from them as of yet. They have good product list and good info. I already have a MI suppler (MRT) looking into the parts already. I will stay away from RPM!

Re: Optima Battery!!!

Honestly, if you plan on running it for extended periods of time without the car running I would recommend a blue top. These are marine grade batteries that are meant to be drained and charged repeatedly.

I personally have a red top and it doesn't take to storage very well. It replaced the stocker last year as it finally gave out. The red and yellow top are not meant to be run low often and if completely drained may never reach a full charge again.

I used to own a red top optima battery that i had on my 96 civic and had 2 15 jl audios with a 1000 watts amp and would always have it bumping loud for hours at a time when i was chillen with the boys and drinking and never once had to get a jump so in my opinion i would go for the red top its a good battery.

Re: Optima Battery!!!

I'm trying to sell my red top, as I bought the car with it in there and I don't want to buy the bracket to hold it down. Going back to motorcraft. Heck my optima isn't even a year old, but its worked fine.

Re: Optima Battery!!!

Ive had several Optimas. The red top is for just regular use, the yellow top is a deep cycle battery, which is good for sound systems and running them without the car on. The blue one is a marine battery and also a deep cycle. I love the yellow top myself, have had one in every car I had until just recently, and I will be getting another one. I once left my lights on in my "85 for about 3 or 4 hours and it started right up! So my opinion if you want to run any kind of stereo or system with the car off, get the yellow top!
