4.6 Exhaust Questions

I don't currently have a GT but I'm planning on selling my car and putting down a couple grand to buy a GT. I have been looking around at all these exhausts and I'm just wondering how I can get a an exhaust that is... very loud, has a great rumbling idle, isn't raspy, and gives me good performance. I don't really wanna change the headers so what Cats/Mufflers/Pipes should I be looking at?

1. (Very) Loud
2. Legal (Are O/R's Legal?)
3. Good rumbling Idle
4. Good performance

Seems that everyones got a different view on what they wan't there car to sound like and maybe one of ya alright got the setup I'm lookin for.

i definitely say flowmaster catbacks. great tone, not raspy, loud, inexpensive, and you cant beat that famous flowmaster sound! i know that pypes violaters and slp loudmouth 1 & 2 are very raspy. americanmuscle.com has sound clips of a handful of catbacks.
hope this helps

Re: 4.6 Exhaust Questions

I have a Flowmaster cat back system on my 96 GT. It not loud, at idle you can here the air flow from the cold air intake and the rumble from the exhaust that sounds real cool together. I like the sounds at cruising speed and at YOT, you can hear it, but the noise isn't overwhelming.

I have borla stingers on my 04 gt
One word ... Sexy!!!

Quiet at idle
Great backpressure aka gurgle gurgle when you let off the gas
Low rumble... Not raspy at all
But when you get on it everyone knows you have a sick Stang
And the tone is just perfect
Totally worth the extra dough IMO

Although I will warn you it becomes an addiction I'm about to buy 2.5 inch O/R x pipe just to give it more vocals and power even though it's not legal to remove cats but my county doesn't check emissions so ...

+1 FOR BORLA! I put them on my Mach and it is the sexiest thing I've ever heard. Except for PureVenom's ride! Borlas are slightly expensive- $580 from American Muscle... but when you order them and install- you will not regret it.

Re: 4.6 Exhaust Questions

I went with bassani cat backs, and a bbk x-pipe. Good sound and I get a lot of compliments. Don't expect to get any horsepower gains out of it.

Does anyone know if the bassani cat back is a chambered muffler? They were on my car when I got it. Can't find it on bassani site.

Re: 4.6 Exhaust Questions

I got a 2004 gt with Magnaflow stage 2 stainless cats, x-pipe, and pipes. It is the perfect sound, not too loud at idle but really opens up when you stand on it.

All I hear about bassani is how bad they leak I would only go that route if I were or knew an experienced welder

Magnaflow magna packs. Aggressive, loud sounding and good performance. Hands down better than flows in every aspect

Looks like I might be the only one with a steeda exhaust. I'm happy with it. It came with the car when I bought it everyone says when I pass them its loud as he'll and really nice sounding. You can't hear it much idling tho u can hear a little rumble. And it sounds nice just driving down the road it's not real loud in the car. I hate things being to loud it gives me headaches easy

Quick stupid question!! I still have my magnaflow muffler that I took off my ford truck I hated how quite it was but anyways would it work on my car? My truck was the 5.4.. I like the way my steed system sounds but the more I watch videos of flowmasters and magnaflows and stuff they sound much better..I don't have the money right now to buy a whole new system so I was just wonderin if the old magnaflow would fit in my 4.6. I couldn't tell ya what muffler it is sorry I didn't order it the muffler shop did

Re: 4.6 Exhaust Questions

you have a pic of the muffler, the mustang requires an in/out on opposite sides of the muffler as in right side in left side out of the ends~ etc. You will have to have a hanger fabbed possibly. What are the inlet/outlet sizes as well.

So im running MAC longtubes into a catted pypes x pipe...and then out (no mufflers) ...sounds badass .. especially coming out the side(roush) ... as long as you dont rev the motor too high it doesnt sound too loud (nascar sounding at redline )

If you don't want raspy stay away from an x-pipe....Mac and Bassani are awesome...off road exhaust isn't legal....google sound clips for exhaust and I am sure you will find one you like...and don't waste your money in shorty headers, stock manifolds flow just about as well it's long tubes or nothing

Im running 2.5 inch pipe an o/r x pipe and magnaflow magnapacks. The idle is badass and cruising is loud and not raspy at all. When i redline its loud as hell ppl can hear me before they see me blocks away. And there cheaper than borlas.

I have to agree but I'm going to have to bow out on this one. I like raspy. My Mach has SLP o/r x pipe with SLP loudmouth 1s. Definitly loud, definitely raspy. But that's what a Mach 1 is supposed to sound like!!!! I did have a bassani catted x with two chamber flowmaster on my cobra, deep quieter sound but I liked it.

I posted a link to a video of my car on facebook but some people are having problems opening it on their iPhones. It's just me wasting a set of tires but its a good sound clip.
