chattering sound at certain rpms before gear change

H I recently bought a cobra (in October) great car hardly any problems at all besides throwout bearing Imagine that, and an annoying chattering noise. It will not make the noise when I am sitting still reving the motor but whenever I am driving it starts rattling at a peak rpm before shifting right before I put in the clutch. I have ruled out the motor. Does anyone have any ideas I was told it could be the throwout bearing chattering because the bearing is shot and off balance or maybe pressure plate since the clutch is stiff as a board. Any ideas would b appreciated

the throwout bearing can chatter and make all sorts of odd noises so it might be that or clutch related.

buy ford throwout bearing and pilot bearing (the kit probably wont have a pilot) dont use the throwout or if it does come with it pilot bearing in the kit, most all clutches give cheap ones and in no time the noise will be back.

I think ford makes a heavy duty throwout bearing, might be good to look into

Ok the noise isn't the pilot bearing it's been doin it the entire time I've owned it and the old owner had it Years The input shaft would prob b toast by now Im goin with throwout bearing I know it's bad just by the squeeking when the clutch is not engaged and most all 99-04 have this problem but I guess it only makes the chatter when there is a load on it hmmm still questionable tho

Thumbs down Re: chattering sound at certain rpms before gear change

here is what we found out today

Well me and my wife took our car to a friend to get a new clutch kit put in. We have only had the car for abot 3 months and dont really know alot at all about it besides what we though it was a stock cobra. Boy was i wrong when we thought that. Aparently not only has it been gone through and set up for drag racing but it has also had a supercharger put on it at one time then taken back off. The block itself underneath is powdercoated green, dead giveway, It has a high performance oil sending unit, Traction bars in the rear along with lowering springs. Front springs have been changed out and fuel pump is a high flow. I know there is many other things our friend told us but too much to list. well the transmission, clutch, or rear of the block is making a chattering noise. If its the transmission its guna cost maybe 550. If its the motor then it will have to b gutted with an unknown cost prob 3-6 k Will know more on wednesday when the transmission is pulled. ugh hope for the best. get a loan for the worst i guess
