Fuel smell while driving

I have an 02 GT and while driving I get a fuel smell and checked everywhere and no fuel leaks at all. Does anyone know what it may be ? The smell is intermittent.

Cats might be shot and not finishing burning the unburnt fuel from the exhaust

Check your fuel filter, it may be damaged

Re: Fuel smell while driving

Thanks. That's what it was. Changed it today and all is well. The seal was only 20 dollars plus tax. So it was an easy fix with no heart aches at all. Someone had jury rigged it and there wasn't a seal on it at all. Just lots of silicone so thus the leaking. I also found a vent tube in the trunk when taking out the filler tube that was disconnected

Your welcome I knew a problem hooray. I had to fix mine and man it was awesome. But ford said it was a bad design. They supplied me with an updated one. No problems now.

+1 for me.

Re: Fuel smell while driving

bbunt302, Actually, when I went to fill her up for the first time after the install. The fuel nozzle at the service station had some left over fuel in it and it spilled all over the side of the car before I started pumping. Man, was I pissed LOL
