Charging issue

Ok so my battery has not been holding a charge, I have been having to charge it about every other day. This has been happening consistently since I put new pulleys in it about a month ago. I never heard anyone say that this would be an issue when I was looking at pulleys so I didnt even think about it. When I am sitting at an idle the battery gauge drops down quite a bit but as soon as a rev it or drive then it will go back up.

make sure it is de-ionized water....not tap

sounds like your battery wasnt a happy camper to start with. charging problems and sometimes even cooling problems are commonly associated with under drive kits...some brands are more prone than others. i cant tell you which brands are the good ones.

Re: Charging issue

Even with an underdrive pulley, it should still be charging while driving. If it were me, and since it's free and easy to do, take it on up to the local parts store and have them test the battery and the alternator. When testing the alternator though, manipulate the throttle to a higher idle, that way you know for sure it's not that. That will be a pretty clear indication on what's going on.

Re: Charging issue

He also said the battery hasn't been holding a charge and that he had to charge it every other day, my guess is that his battery is junk.

Use an F650 to tow it back home when the battery quits.

Re: Charging issue

You may have a couple problems here contributing to what you're seeing. First, it sounds like the battery is on its last legs.

Second, did you actually change the pullies on the alternator? If so, you may want to consider swapping the stock alternator pulley back on. There are also companies that sell overdrive alternator pullies to account for this very problem. It's a pretty common issue with underdrive pullies. Some people have issues, some don't. The crank pulley is really where the big benefit is coming from anyway though, so you're not losing much power by going back to the stock alternator pulley, or even upgrading to an overdrive pulley.

This is the exact thing that Ford did on the "93 Cobra.

I put on steeda's. They are the only ones to use in my opinion. I have never had a charging or temperature issue. Either your battery is weak or you have issues with your alternator. What brand of pulleys did you put on?
