2k RPM Stutter

Hello everyone! Its been a long time since I've browsed these forums. Hope everyone is doing well. I've been having an issue lately and I thought to myself, who better to ask than the folks at Mustang Evolution.

I have a 2000 Mustang, Automatic, V6. Recently, while driving I have been getting a pretty bad stutter. It seems to happen around the 2k RPM mark as I accelerate. I don't notice any smells or anything but when I come to a light or a stop, sometimes my idle RPM will fluctuate. Not a lot, very slighty and the car will shake a bit. Then as I move forward and start to accelerate, around the 2K RPM mark again, it will stutter but once I get past that it seems to be fine. When I'm driving on the highway, above 50mph, I don't really notice anything. Just mostly when I'm stopped at a light and as I accelerate from a stop. Occasionally (not all the time) i will hear a pop.

Recently, I got my spark wires replaced, not sure about the spark plugs, but I'm assuming if they replaced the wires they would of replaced the spark plugs if they were bad? Anywho...

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Re: 2k RPM Stutter

clean your MAF for starters (good to do anyway) the sensor is internal to the air box housing unless you have a CAI then it will be easier to access. Use a tamper proof torx bit to remove the sensor from the MAF housing or just clean it while still in the MAF housing using on contact no residue electronic cleaner.

You can also clean the IAC but I doubt thats it as it controls idle and you are accelerating when it does this.

It might have a miss, that would mean plugs, plug wire, or coil pack (probably not plug wire unless one has a burn mark on it)

you need a computer scanner. I'm sure it will tell you your throttle positioning sensor
is either bad or out of adjustment.

have you found the solution to this issue? Another thing you might want to check out is possibly your fuel filter.

Re: 2k RPM Stutter

Wow, thanks for all the responses! I ended up dropping it off at the shop right down the road from the office so the guy could take a look at it while I was at work. Turns out it is the Secondary Air Induction Motor. He's going to replace it. The part, ordered from Ford plus labor makes it about a $400 job. I'm keeping your other suggestions in mind though for future issues. Thanks again!
