Tunes

I just tuned my '04 GT and when I'm in 5th going like 45-50 and my rpms are 1.5k-2k and I give it some throttle it sounds like something is clanking around in the engine bay. When I returned it to stock the sound went away

K...what tune did you load up...that's engine knock...you need the best quality fuel you can buy at the highest octane possible. If you mix premium and regular is isn't gonna work. It has to be all premium. Octane boost isn't gonna work either.

I have the 93 octane race tune, and I only put premium in the tank, also, my service engine soon light is on whenever I tune it

Re: Tunes

So you are running 93 octane to match the 93 tune correct? Who is the tuner?

Do you have 93 octane in the tank. You will cause engine damage if you do not have the correct octane in there. There is a way to up the octane. Hardware store sell acetone, toluene and xylene. All of these are about 120 octane and can be had for under 10 bucks a gallon. A plus is that adding any of these to your fuel will clean your fuel system in 1 tank. Drawback is you a cannot put more than a gallon in a full tank of fuel. I use it when I run the 93 octane tune because we cannot get 93 here. I suggest burning all the fuel in the tank then filling up with the highest octane you can find then loading the octane appropriate tune.

Yes, I am running 93 octane for a 93 octane tune. I am using a bama tune from Americanmuscle.

Did you load the tune with a lower octane left in the tank?

Re: Tunes

Bama tunes are usually spot on but I would take it back to stock and burn the tank out before I loaded it back up if thats the case.

I don't think so, I mean, I always filled it up with 93 but I got my car taken away for awhile so someone might have driven and filled it up with a lower octane. Does having the same gas in the tank for like 2 months have anything to do with the octane?

Ha...ya...the gas will separate. Run that tank thru til empty. Then get like 10 bucks worth and run that thru really hard. Then fill right up and load the 93 tune

Re: Tunes

No but you should have ran the gas out before loading the tune to insure you had the proper octane.Life is full of lessons.

When you go and put the 10 bucks in buy a can of seafoam and put half the can actually put the whole can in and run it hard to get rid of any crap left in from the old fuel. Then fill up and try the lower octane tune, see if it knocks,if it doesn't then try the 93.

And bama is scary if you ask me. They must love to advance the timing becuase they had me pull out 8 degrees before my knock went away. I hope they don't do tuning for forced induction or they would have problems.

I asked american muscle rep what the timing was at various places in the tunes and he was like what do you mean? And I was like damn dude you are scaring me. He told me it was set at what ever my SCT tuner said it is. And I said dude it doesn't tell you it just let's you add or subtract timing from the base map.

Don't stay in the throttle if you hear that noise

I emptied the tank and then put $10 in and the knock goes away with the 87 tune but not the 93 tune. I'm pretty sure that it didn't do it with the 87 before this

Too much timing in the tune. Is it a bama tune or the canned one that comes with tuner. If it's a bama tune call them and tell em what's going on. If its the canned tune run the 91

Ok, how can I tell? I'm almost sure that it's a bama tune because I pushed program vehicle then custom tune and then pushed 93-r or what it's called

Yup that was the bama tune. Try the canned tune and see if it still does it. If it doesn't call bama and tell em what's going on
