Mileage of a GT

I got a buddy of mine whos wanting to buy a 02 GT Mustang...its has a 149,000 miles on it....runs smooth though...dont hear any problems with it...my concern for him is what type of problems can he expect first with a engine with that high of mileage..its a manual...the only problem that i noticed is it sound like metal clanking together when its in gear and u take ur foot off the gas....the only way to describe it is like the transmission is loose or somethiing lol...it shifs fine though...WHOLE brake system just replaced as well....besides needing an oil change ASAP its a good deal for the price...is it possible to start modding an engine with that high of mileage? if so what things would need to be replaced before beginning to do mods? any info would be nice...i talked him into holding off till monday before purchasing it so i could check with you guys...ever since i bought my GT hes been wanting to get out his 6 lol

Re: Mileage of a GT

Could be u-joints... That mileage isn't astronomical... I'd say it depends on how it was treated, on whether it is mod worthy... If it doesn't consume oil or tick (too much)or knock, he probably is good to go.

Agreed, all depends on how the car was treated, if it was getting every oil change on time and maintained like it should and also where you live, if you get snow and they put salt on the roads the underbody could be rusty creating some problems

Re: Mileage of a GT

I could see that plastic upper intake going out before anything else.

As said, it all depends on how the car was cared for for the first 149k miles.

Usually most people will get their oil changed before selling the car...just makes a potential buyer feel better when they check that dipstick. I'd find out if the current owner has any maintenance receipts or history.

I agree. My GT has 108k on it. Last year the intake manifold cracked on a manufacturer seam. I paid about $600 for a polished aluminum one so it won't happen again. Easy fix. As long as the car was cared for it should be good. You should be able to tell when you look at the car and talk to the previous owner. Good luck

K these 2v motors are proving to be bulletproof so anything under 200k as long as the oil was changed regular seem to be fine....just listen for engine knocks or sputtering under load... If it passes those requirements get in

I'd look for the fuel pump to be going out soon if not replaced...but other than that I can't think of anything.

Re: Mileage of a GT

some 4.6Ls can leak oil, look good all over it for any leaks and make sure the timing chains are good not sure how you can check that other than removing the front cover~

Re: Mileage of a GT

Mileage don't really mater as long as it has been treated well and has had it's oil changed as it should. and I would check the u-joints
