Oil brands?

I have a 99 cobra and have been running 5w-20 weight royal purple since ive owned the car, but getting royal purple in that weight around here is getting hard! Thinking of going to red line oil being as that is readily available around my area. Has anyone used redline before? What would you guys recommend ?

Never tried Redline, but got turned on to this Amsoil stuff and I run 5w-30 instead of 5w-20 and I'm really happy with it. I got it shipped to my house, and while it was a bit expensive, I think 6quarts was like $50, it is supposed to last like 25k miles under normal driving conditions.

Food for thought.

Re: Oil brands?

Just some general info for ya- WalMarts here sell Royal Purple, so does all of the auto part stores. I figured I'd let you know that finding it in a department store might be an option you haven't looked into. Also on the same note, Royal Purple makes what they call "Racing Oil" in 5-20 weight. It is also an extended interval change (15k miles+). The racing oil has additional additives superior to standard synthetics but the catch is that does not have the oil companies API standards approval.
If need be, changing to Redline, Amzoil, Pennzoil Ultra, or Mobil1 Extended Performance synthetics will not be an issue. All of them are safe up to 15k mile intervals.
I have used each at least once but my high revving V6 is ultra quiet using Mobil1 Extended Performance oil. Hope that's a little helpful. Always an interesting subject though. I frequent the Bob Is The Oil Guy website sometimes.

Re: Oil brands?

5w30 is going to be a fine oil to use and has better protection than 5w20 so look for that in RP

Ok thanks man. Has anyone used redline oil? What brand and weight oil does everyone run? Kind of curious to get some feedback on that one.

K....the search function is your friend as I have been very thorough on this subject. Red-line,rp and amsoil use a group 4 basestock and are a real synthetic oil. You can't go wrong with any of those 3 oils...but forget the 5w20 spec...it's a total joke...5w30 minimum and if you plan to rev past 3000 for any length of time a 0w40 oil might be in your best interest

Re: Oil brands?

I read some of the Bob The Oil Guy last night. I think I'm going to go with Royal Purple 0W-30 on both of my cars. Very good information on that site! Thanks Everett!

Then you wasted your money buying it....15k is severe service like driving at 5000 rpm all day. That stuff if you drive normal will go 25k. Do what you want but you paid alot for it,you might as well get your money's worth
